Installation Guide

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing your RealTruck Nerf Steps. A second set of hands is recommended for easier installation.

Video Description: An official N-Fab installation video demonstrating the process of installing Nerf Step RS on a 2021 Ford Bronco. While the vehicle model may differ, the installation principles for the Nerf Steps are similar.

Step 1: Prepare Vehicle Underside

Locate the threaded holes on the rocker panel behind the driver's side front tire. If your vehicle has factory rock rails, plugs, or bolts in these locations, remove them first to expose the threaded holes.

Step 2: Install Front Bracket

Position the driver's side front bracket (identical to the passenger side front bracket) to align with the two threaded holes on the rocker panel.

Use two yellow zinc bolts from the kit to hand-tighten the bracket to the vehicle. Do not fully tighten yet to allow for adjustment.

Step 3: Install Rear Bracket

Follow the rocker panel back to the second set of threaded holes. Again, remove any existing plugs or bolts.

Install the rear bracket (identical to the other rear bracket) using two yellow zinc bolts, hand-tightening them into the threaded holes.

Step 4: Mount Step Bar to Brackets

With assistance, lift the step bar and align its mounts with the installed brackets.

From the bottom of the step bar mounts, insert the carriage bolts (included hardware) up through the mounts and into the brackets.

Secure each carriage bolt with a serrated flange nut on top. Hand-tighten all bolts and nuts initially. It is recommended to start with the center mount first, then move to the outer mounts.

Step 5: Final Tightening

Once all hardware is connected and hand-tightened, begin fully tightening the bolts.

First, tighten the bolts connecting the step bar to the brackets using a 14mm wrench or ratchet.

Next, tighten the bolts connecting the brackets to the vehicle's rocker panel. For the lower bolts, an extension may be needed. For the front bracket, a box-end wrench or ratcheting wrench may be necessary due to space constraints.

Repeat the entire installation process for the opposite side of the vehicle.

Operating Instructions

Use the integrated step plates for safe and stable entry and exit from your vehicle. The dimpled surface provides enhanced grip in various conditions.

Care and Maintenance

Regularly inspect all mounting hardware for tightness and re-tighten as necessary.

Clean the Nerf Steps with mild soap and water to maintain their finish. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the textured black coating.

Periodically check for any signs of rust or damage, especially in areas exposed to road salt or harsh weather.

Troubleshooting

Loose Step Bar

If the step bar feels loose, re-check and tighten all mounting bolts and nuts.

Rust or Corrosion

While designed for durability, prolonged exposure to harsh elements can cause wear. Clean affected areas and apply a suitable rust-inhibiting coating if necessary.
