6. Operation

The Linksys LGS105 is an unmanaged switch, requiring no user intervention for operation beyond initial setup. It functions automatically to provide network connectivity.

6.1 LED Indicators

Monitor the LEDs on the front panel to understand the status of your network connections:

  • System LED: A steady light indicates the switch is powered on and operating correctly.
  • Link/Act/GB LEDs: These LEDs provide visual feedback on the status of each connected port. Refer to section 4.1 for detailed explanations of LED states.

The switch employs Quality of Service (QoS) traffic prioritization to ensure that time-sensitive data, such as video streaming or online gaming, receives preferential treatment, minimizing lag and improving overall performance.

7. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your Linksys LGS105 switch, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the exterior of the switch with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or aerosol sprays.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the switch is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Do not block the ventilation holes.
  • Power Cycle: If you experience network issues, try power cycling the switch by unplugging the power adapter, waiting 10 seconds, and then plugging it back in.
  • Cable Management: Keep Ethernet cables organized and free from kinks or excessive bends to maintain signal integrity.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Linksys LGS105 switch, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power: Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to the switch and a working power outlet. Check if the System LED is illuminated.
  • No Link Light: Verify that the Ethernet cables are securely connected to both the switch and the connected device. Try using a different Ethernet cable or port. Ensure the connected device is powered on and functioning correctly.
  • Slow Connection Speed: Confirm that both the switch and the connected device support Gigabit Ethernet (1000 Mbps). Ensure you are using Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cables for optimal performance. Check for excessive network traffic or interference.
  • Intermittent Connectivity: Check all cable connections for looseness or damage. Try power cycling the switch and your connected devices.
