5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

The BENNING CM 1-2 requires 2 AAA alkaline batteries for operation.

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the rear of the multimeter.
  2. Use a screwdriver (if necessary) to open the battery compartment.
  3. Insert the 2 AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it.

The multimeter is now ready for use.

6. Operating Instructions

Familiarize yourself with the function dial and input terminals before proceeding with measurements.

6.1 Powering On/Off

  • To power on, rotate the central sliding switch from "OFF" to the desired measurement function (e.g., A~, V~, V=, Ω))).
  • To power off, rotate the sliding switch back to the "OFF" position.
  • The device features an automatic shut-off function to conserve battery life if left idle for a period.

6.2 Measuring AC Current (A~)

Use the clamp jaws to measure AC current without breaking the circuit.

  1. Rotate the sliding switch to the "A~" position.
  2. Open the clamp jaws by pressing the lever on the side.
  3. Enclose only one conductor of the circuit within the clamp jaws. Ensure the jaws are fully closed.
  4. Read the AC current value displayed on the LC screen.

6.3 Measuring AC/DC Voltage (V~ / V=)

Use the test leads for voltage measurements.

  1. Insert the black test lead into the "COM" input terminal.
  2. Insert the red test lead into the "V-Ω" input terminal.
  3. Rotate the sliding switch to the "V~" for AC voltage or "V=" for DC voltage.
  4. Connect the test leads in parallel across the circuit or component to be measured.
  5. Read the voltage value displayed on the LC screen.

6.4 Measuring Resistance (Ω) and Continuity Test ()))

Use the test leads for resistance and continuity measurements.

  1. Ensure the circuit or component is de-energized before measuring resistance or continuity.
  2. Insert the black test lead into the "COM" input terminal.
  3. Insert the red test lead into the "V-Ω" input terminal.
  4. Rotate the sliding switch to the "Ω)))" position.
  5. For resistance: Connect the test leads across the component. Read the resistance value.
  6. For continuity: Connect the test leads across the circuit path. A continuous beep indicates continuity (low resistance).

6.5 HOLD Function

The HOLD function allows you to freeze the current reading on the display.

  • While a measurement is being taken, press the "HOLD" button. The displayed value will be frozen.
  • Press the "HOLD" button again to release the reading and return to live measurement.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

To clean the multimeter, wipe the case with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the device is powered off and disconnected from any circuits before cleaning.

7.2 Battery Replacement

When the battery undervoltage indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries immediately to ensure accurate measurements. Refer to Section 5.1 for battery installation instructions. Always use new AAA alkaline batteries.

7.3 Storage

If the multimeter is not to be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and damage to the device. Store the multimeter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Multimeter does not power on.Dead or incorrectly installed batteries.Check battery polarity or replace batteries.
Inaccurate readings.Low battery; incorrect function selected; external interference.Replace batteries; ensure correct function is selected; move away from strong electromagnetic fields.
No reading when measuring current.Clamp jaws not fully closed; multiple conductors inside jaws; AC current not present.Ensure jaws are fully closed around a single conductor; verify AC current is present.
No continuity beep.Circuit is open; test leads are faulty.Check circuit for breaks; test leads for continuity.

If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, contact customer support.
