- Compact Design: Space-saving form factor suitable for various workspaces.
- Dual 4-Digit LED Displays: Bright and easy-to-read displays for precise voltage and current values.
- Digital Controls: Precise rotary encoders for dialing in exact settings.
- Switchable Power Input: Supports both 110V and 220V power inputs, selectable via a switch on the rear panel.
- Circuit Protection: Built-in protection against overload, short circuit, and over temperature.
- Automatic mA/A Display Switching: Automatically switches between milliampere and ampere display for convenience.
- Panel Lock Feature: Prevents unintended changes to settings during operation.
Front Panel Overview:

Figure 2: Detailed view of the KORAD KD3005D front panel, indicating controls and indicators.
The front panel includes:
- Voltage/Current Display: Shows real-time output voltage and current.
- Voltage Adjustment Knob: Digital encoder for setting output voltage, with push function for fine/coarse adjustment and lock/unlock.
- Current Adjustment Knob: Digital encoder for setting output current, with push function for fine/coarse adjustment and OCP (Over-current Protection) on/off.
- Power Switch: Turns the unit on and off.
- Output Terminals: Red (+) for positive, Black (-) for negative, Green (GND) for earth ground.
- Indicators: OCP (Over-current Protection Active), C.C (Constant Current Mode), C.V (Constant Voltage Mode), LOCK (Front Panel Lock Indicator).
Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the power supply from its packaging. Verify that all components are present: the KD3005D Power Supply unit, power cord, 5 Amp test leads, and this user manual.
- Placement: Place the unit on a stable, flat surface with adequate ventilation. Ensure that the rear fan vent is not obstructed.
- Input Voltage Selection: Before connecting the power cord, check the voltage selector switch on the rear panel. Ensure it is set to your local mains voltage (110V or 220V). Incorrect setting can damage the unit.
- Power Connection: Connect the provided power cord to the AC input socket on the rear panel of the power supply, then plug the other end into a grounded wall outlet.
- Output Connections: Connect the test leads to the output terminals on the front panel. The red lead connects to the red (+) terminal, the black lead to the black (-) terminal. The green (GND) terminal is for earth ground connection, often connected to the negative terminal for common ground applications.

Operating Instructions
The KD3005D operates in either Constant Voltage (CV) or Constant Current (CC) mode, automatically switching between them based on the load and set limits.
Basic Operation:
- Power On: Press the power switch on the front panel to turn on the unit. The LED displays will illuminate.
- Setting Voltage:
- Rotate the Voltage Adjustment Knob to set the desired output voltage.
- Push the knob to switch between coarse and fine adjustment modes. Coarse adjustment changes voltage in larger steps, while fine adjustment allows for precise tuning (0.01V increments).
- The display will show the set voltage while adjusting, then revert to the actual output voltage.
- Setting Current Limit:
- Rotate the Current Adjustment Knob to set the maximum output current (current limit).
- Push the knob to switch between coarse and fine adjustment modes.
- It is recommended to set the current limit slightly above the expected current draw of your circuit to provide protection against overcurrent.
- Connecting Load: Once voltage and current limits are set, connect your device or circuit to the output terminals using the test leads.
- Monitoring Output: The LED displays will show the real-time output voltage and current being delivered to your load. The C.V (Constant Voltage) or C.C (Constant Current) indicator will light up to show the current operating mode.
Advanced Features:
- Panel Lock: To prevent accidental changes to settings, push and hold the Voltage Adjustment Knob until the "LOCK" indicator illuminates on the display. To unlock, push and hold the knob again.
- Over-current Protection (OCP): The unit has built-in OCP. To activate a shutdown when the current limit is exceeded, push and hold the Current Adjustment Knob until the "OCP" indicator illuminates. If OCP triggers, the supply will shut down. To reset, slightly adjust the voltage knob. If OCP is not active, the unit will enter Constant Current (CC) mode and reduce voltage to maintain the set current limit.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your power supply.
- Cleaning: Disconnect the power supply from the mains before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Ventilation: Ensure the cooling fan and vents on the rear panel are free from dust and obstructions. The fan automatically adjusts speed based on internal temperature.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the power supply in a cool, dry environment, away from direct sunlight and excessive dust.
- Internal Components: The unit contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt to open the casing. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Unit does not power on. | No power from wall outlet; Power cord not properly connected; Incorrect voltage selector setting; Internal fuse blown. | Check wall outlet with another device. Ensure power cord is securely connected. Verify voltage selector switch on rear panel matches local mains. If fuse is suspected, contact qualified service personnel. |
| No output voltage/current. | Output terminals not connected; Voltage/current set to zero; OCP triggered; Internal fault. | Ensure test leads are connected. Verify voltage and current settings are above zero. If OCP indicator is lit, reset by slightly adjusting voltage knob. If problem persists, contact support. |
| Voltage/Current display is inaccurate. | Measurement error; Unit calibration required. | Ensure external measurement tools are calibrated. While the unit's meters are generally accurate, for critical applications, use a calibrated multimeter. If significant discrepancy, contact support. |
| Fan is noisy or constantly running. | Normal operation under load; Dust accumulation in fan/vents. | The fan speed adjusts with load and internal temperature. This is normal. Ensure vents are clear of dust. If noise is excessive or unusual, contact support. |
| Unit enters Constant Current (CC) mode unexpectedly. | Load resistance is too low; Current limit set too low for the load. | Increase the current limit setting or check the load for short circuits or very low resistance. |
