Figure 1: Front view of the Tristar KA-5103 Electric Oil Radiator. This image shows the complete radiator unit, highlighting its compact design, the control panel with the thermostat knob, and the power indicator light.
Components:
- Thermostat Control Knob: Used to adjust the desired room temperature.
- Power Indicator Light: Illuminates when the radiator is operating.
- Heating Fins: The oil-filled sections that radiate heat.
- Carry Handle: Integrated handle for easy transportation.
- Stable Base: Provides stability for the unit.

Figure 3: Detail of the integrated carry handle. This image highlights the ergonomic handle located at the top of the radiator, designed for safe and easy portability.
3. Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the radiator from its packaging. Retain packaging for future storage if desired.
- Placement: Place the radiator on a firm, level surface. Ensure it is at least 1 meter (3 feet) away from walls, furniture, and other objects to allow for proper air circulation and prevent fire hazards.
- Power Connection: Ensure the thermostat control knob is set to the 'OFF' position. Plug the power cord into a suitable 220V electrical outlet.
4. Operating Instructions
- Turning On: Rotate the thermostat control knob clockwise from 'OFF' to the 'HIGH' setting. The power indicator light will illuminate, indicating the radiator is receiving power and beginning to heat.
- Setting the Temperature: Once the room reaches your desired temperature, slowly turn the thermostat control knob counter-clockwise until the power indicator light turns off. The radiator will now maintain this temperature by cycling on and off automatically.
- Adjusting Temperature: To increase the temperature, turn the knob clockwise. To decrease it, turn the knob counter-clockwise.
- Overheat Protection: The radiator is equipped with an overheat protection system. If the unit overheats, it will automatically shut off. Unplug the unit, allow it to cool down, and check for any obstructions before restarting.
- Turning Off: To turn off the radiator, rotate the thermostat control knob counter-clockwise to the 'OFF' position. Unplug the unit from the wall socket when not in use for extended periods.
Note: During initial use or after a period of non-use, a slight odor or minor crackling sounds may occur as the oil heats up. This is normal and should dissipate quickly.
5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Always unplug the radiator and allow it to cool completely before cleaning. Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Do not immerse the radiator in water.
- Storage: When not in use, store the radiator in a cool, dry place. It is recommended to store it in its original packaging to protect it from dust and damage.
- Cord Care: Do not wrap the power cord tightly around the radiator when storing, as this can damage the cord.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Radiator does not turn on. | No power supply; thermostat set too low; overheat protection activated. | Check if the unit is plugged in and the outlet is working. Turn the thermostat knob to a higher setting. Unplug, allow to cool, and check for obstructions. |
| Radiator is not heating sufficiently. | Thermostat set too low; room size too large for unit's capacity; external drafts. | Increase the thermostat setting. Ensure the unit is used in an appropriately sized room (approx. 15 sq meters). Close windows and doors to minimize heat loss. |
| Unit makes crackling or creaking noises. | Normal expansion and contraction of metal as oil heats and cools. | This is a normal operational sound for oil-filled radiators and does not indicate a fault. |
| Unit smells during initial use. | Residual manufacturing oils burning off. | This is normal for the first few uses and will dissipate. Ensure good ventilation. |
