2. Package Contents

Ensure all items are present before proceeding with setup:

  • AcuRite Digital Weather Station Display Unit
  • Wireless Outdoor Sensor
  • Instruction Manual (this document)

3. Setup

Follow these steps for initial setup of your AcuRite Digital Weather Station:

  1. Install Batteries in Outdoor Sensor: Open the battery compartment on the wireless outdoor sensor. Insert 2 AA alkaline or lithium batteries (not included) according to the polarity markings. Close the compartment securely.
  2. Install Batteries in Display Unit: Open the battery compartment on the back of the display unit. Insert 3 AA alkaline batteries (not included) according to the polarity markings. Close the compartment. The display will power on.
  3. Sensor Placement: Choose a location for the outdoor sensor that is free from direct sunlight and direct precipitation for accurate readings. The sensor should be mounted vertically. Ensure it is within 330 feet (100 meters) of the display unit. Avoid placing it near large metallic objects, thick walls, or other electronic devices that may interfere with the wireless signal.

Initial Synchronization: After installing batteries in both units, the display unit will automatically search for the outdoor sensor signal. This may take a few minutes. Once connected, outdoor temperature and humidity readings will appear on the display. The self-setting clock will also attempt to synchronize.

Learning Mode: The weather station will enter a 14-day learning mode to calibrate its barometric pressure and forecasting algorithm to your specific location. During this period, the weather forecast may not be entirely accurate. Allow the full 14 days for the unit to establish a stable baseline.

4. Operation

The AcuRite Digital Weather Station display is designed for easy readability. Here's how to interpret and interact with the display:

Display Sections:

  • Outdoor Section: Displays current outdoor temperature and humidity, along with daily high/low records.
  • Forecast Section: Shows the 12-24 hour weather forecast using graphical icons. Also displays barometric pressure and its trend.
  • Indoor Section: Displays current indoor temperature and humidity, along with daily high/low records.
  • Time & Date: The self-setting clock displays the current time and date.
  • Moon Phase: An icon indicates the current phase of the moon.

Buttons and Settings:

Specific buttons on the display unit allow you to adjust settings, view historical data, and control the backlight. Refer to the labels on your unit for exact button functions.

  • SET/MENU: Typically used to enter setup mode for time, date, and other preferences.
  • UP/DOWN Arrows: Used to adjust values during setup or to cycle through historical data (e.g., daily high/low temperatures).
  • LIGHT/BACKLIGHT: Activates or adjusts the brightness of the display backlight.
  • MIN/MAX: Press to view minimum and maximum recorded temperatures and humidity for indoor and outdoor readings.

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your weather station.

Battery Replacement:

  • Replace batteries in both the display unit and outdoor sensor when the low battery indicator appears on the display.
  • For the outdoor sensor, it is recommended to use lithium batteries in cold climates (below -4°F / -20°C) for better performance.
  • Always replace all batteries in a set with new ones; do not mix old and new batteries.

Cleaning:

  • Wipe the display unit and outdoor sensor with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or chemicals.
  • Ensure the outdoor sensor's ventilation openings are clear of debris.

Sensor Relocation:

If you notice consistently inaccurate outdoor readings, especially temperature, consider relocating the outdoor sensor to a shaded area, away from heat sources or reflective surfaces that could artificially inflate temperature readings.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your AcuRite Digital Weather Station, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Outdoor Temperature/Humidity Reading:
    • Ensure batteries are correctly installed in both the display unit and outdoor sensor.
    • Verify the outdoor sensor is within the 330-foot wireless range of the display unit.
    • Relocate the outdoor sensor or display unit to minimize interference from other electronics, large metal surfaces, or thick walls.
    • Perform a reset: Remove batteries from both units, wait 1 minute, then reinsert batteries into the outdoor sensor first, followed by the display unit.
  • Inaccurate Temperature/Humidity Readings:
    • For outdoor readings, ensure the sensor is not in direct sunlight, near heat sources (e.g., exhaust vents, windows), or on a dark surface that absorbs heat.
    • Allow the unit to complete its 14-day learning mode for optimal accuracy.
    • Compare readings with a known accurate thermometer/hygrometer placed nearby.
  • Inaccurate Weather Forecast:
    • The forecast is based on changes in barometric pressure at your specific location. It requires 14 days to calibrate.
    • Local microclimates can sometimes cause discrepancies with regional forecasts. The station's forecast is specific to its immediate environment.
  • Display Not Working/Dim:
    • Check battery levels and replace if necessary.
    • Ensure the power adapter (if used) is securely connected.
    • Adjust backlight settings using the appropriate button.
  • Outdoor Sensor Malfunction in Cold Temperatures:
    • Ensure lithium batteries are used in the outdoor sensor if temperatures drop below -4°F (-20°C), as alkaline batteries may perform poorly in extreme cold.
    • If the sensor consistently reads extreme low temperatures (e.g., -80°F) in moderately cold conditions, the sensor may be faulty and require replacement.
