Setup Guide
System Requirements
- Operating System: Windows (Specific driver installation may be required for optimal performance).
- Hardware Interface: USB 2.0 port.
- Compatible Devices: Laptop, Personal Computer.
Connecting the UMC22
- Connect to Computer: Use a USB cable to connect the UMC22 to an available USB 2.0 port on your computer. The device is USB-powered.
- Install Drivers (if necessary): For Windows, visit the Behringer website to download and install the latest ASIO drivers for the UMC22. This ensures low-latency performance with your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW).
- Connect Microphones/Instruments:
- MIC/LINE 1 Input: Connect a microphone via an XLR cable or a line-level source via a 1/4" TRS cable to the combination jack. If using a condenser microphone, activate +48V phantom power using the switch on the rear panel.
- INST 2 Input: Connect an instrument (e.g., guitar, bass) via a 1/4" TS cable to the dedicated instrument input.
- Connect Headphones: Plug your headphones into the 1/4" TRS headphone jack on the front panel.
- Connect Studio Monitors: Use two 1/4" TRS cables to connect the main outputs on the rear panel to your active studio monitors.

Operating Instructions
Input Gain Adjustment
Use the GAIN 1 and GAIN 2 knobs on the front panel to adjust the input level for MIC/LINE 1 and INST 2, respectively. Monitor the CLIP and SIG (Signal) LEDs next to each gain knob. The SIG LED indicates an incoming signal, while the CLIP LED warns of signal overload. Adjust the gain to ensure the SIG LED illuminates consistently and the CLIP LED only flashes occasionally during the loudest parts of your performance.
Direct Monitoring
Press the DIRECT MONITOR button to enable zero-latency monitoring of your input signals directly through the UMC22. This allows you to hear your performance without delay, which is crucial for recording. When direct monitoring is active, the computer's sound output may be ducked or bypassed, depending on your DAW settings.
Output Level Control
The OUTPUT knob controls the overall volume for both the main outputs (to your studio monitors) and the headphone output. Adjust this knob to a comfortable listening level.
Phantom Power (+48V)
The +48V phantom power switch is located on the rear panel. Activate this switch only when using condenser microphones that require phantom power. Ensure the microphone is connected before engaging phantom power to prevent potential damage.

Maintenance
- Keep the device clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
- Avoid exposing the UMC22 to moisture, extreme temperatures, or direct sunlight.
- Do not attempt to open the casing or modify the device, as this will void the warranty and could cause damage.
- Disconnect all cables when the device is not in use for extended periods.
Troubleshooting
- No Sound Output:
- Check all cable connections (USB, headphones, monitors).
- Ensure the UMC22 is selected as the audio input/output device in your computer's sound settings and DAW.
- Verify that the OUTPUT knob on the UMC22 is turned up.
- Confirm that your studio monitors are powered on and their volume is adjusted.
- No Input Signal:
- Check microphone/instrument cable connections.
- Adjust the GAIN knob for the respective input. Look for the SIG LED to illuminate.
- If using a condenser microphone, ensure +48V phantom power is enabled on the rear panel.
- Verify that the correct input is selected in your DAW.
- High Latency (Delay):
- Ensure you have installed the latest ASIO drivers for Windows from the Behringer website.
- Enable the DIRECT MONITOR function on the UMC22 for zero-latency monitoring of inputs.
- Adjust the buffer size settings in your DAW to a lower value (note: very low buffer sizes may cause audio dropouts on less powerful systems).
- Distorted Audio (Clipping):
- Reduce the GAIN knob for the input channel where clipping occurs (CLIP LED flashes frequently).
- Ensure the output level is not too high, causing distortion in your headphones or monitors.
