1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the Dreambaby Retractable Mesh Baby Gate. This gate is designed to provide a safe barrier for children and pets in various areas of your home, both indoors and outdoors. Its retractable design allows for convenient use and storage when not needed. Please read these instructions carefully before installation and use to ensure proper function and safety.
2. Important Safety Information
- This product is designed for hardware mounting only. It requires drilling holes for secure installation.
- Always ensure the gate is properly installed and securely latched before leaving a child or pet unattended.
- The gate features a double locking mechanism. You must press and turn the top button to unlock the gate.
- The mesh material is UV treated for durability and color retention in sunlight. However, the gate itself must be brought inside during rain, hail, snow, or generally wet conditions to prevent damage.
- There are no bottom bases or bars, which minimizes tripping hazards when the gate is retracted.
- Regularly check all parts for wear, damage, or loose components. Discontinue use if any part is damaged.
- Never use this gate as a substitute for adult supervision.

5. Installation Instructions
The Dreambaby Retractable Gate can be installed inside a doorway, hallway, or at the top or bottom of stairs. It can also be mounted on the outside of a doorway. The gate fits spaces up to 55 inches (140 cm) wide when mounted inside a doorway, and up to 51 inches (129 cm) wide when mounted outside a doorway.
5.1. Planning Your Installation
- Read Instructions: Carefully read the entire instruction manual before beginning.
- Choose Location: Determine the best location for your gate. Consider whether you will mount it inside or outside an opening, and which side you prefer the gate mechanism (handle side) to be on.
- Measure Opening: Use a tape measure to ensure the opening width is suitable for the gate.
- Select Template: The package includes various installation templates. Choose the appropriate template for your specific mounting situation (e.g., inside doorway, outside doorway, top of stairs).
- Consider Spacers: If you have baseboards or skirting boards, optional spacers (sold separately) may be required to provide a flat mounting surface for the brackets.
5.2. Marking and Drilling
- Position Template: Place the chosen installation template (marked '1' for the gate mechanism side) on the wall or door frame where the gate mechanism will be installed. Ensure the template is vertical and the bottom aligns with the floor.
- Mark Holes: Using a pencil, mark the upper and lower screw holes indicated on the template.
- Repeat for Hooks: On the opposite side of the opening, place the appropriate hook template (e.g., '2', '3', '4', or '5' depending on mounting type) and mark the screw holes. Ensure the marked holes on both sides are vertically aligned and at an equal distance from the floor.
- Drill Pilot Holes: Drill pilot holes at the marked positions. Use appropriate drill bits for your wall material (wood, drywall, etc.). Insert wall plugs if necessary.

5.3. Mounting Brackets and Gate
- Install Brackets: Securely screw the mounting brackets into the drilled holes. Ensure they are firmly attached to the wall or door frame.
- Install Hooks: Install the hooks on the opposite side, ensuring they are directly opposite the gate mechanism brackets.
- Attach Gate: Align the groove on the gate casing with the arrow on the locking bracket. Snap the gate into place until a distinct clicking sound is heard, confirming it is securely attached.
- Secure Locking Brace: Fit the locking brace above the upper locking bracket. This helps to conceal the locking mechanism from children.

6. Operating Instructions
6.1. Opening the Gate (One-Handed Operation)
To open the gate with one hand:
- Press down on the top button of the locking mechanism.
- While pressing, turn the knob to unlock.
- Unhook the handle from the opposite side and allow the gate to retract into its casing.
Note: The gate is designed to make a loud sound when retracting. This serves as an audible warning to alert you that the gate is being opened.

6.2. Closing the Gate (Silent Operation)
To close the gate silently, a two-handed operation is required:
- Press down on the top button and turn the knob with one hand.
- With your other hand, gently guide the gate handle across the opening and hook it into the opposite side's locking mechanism. This controlled retraction will minimize noise.

7. Relocation Instructions
The Dreambaby Retractable Gate includes two sets of mounting hardware, allowing you to easily relocate the gate between two different areas of your home. To move the gate:
- Ensure the gate is fully retracted.
- To remove the gate from the installed brackets, press the tab on the top of the gate mechanism and lift the gate unit upwards.
- Once removed, you can transport the gate to the second location where the other set of mounting brackets has been installed.
- Align the gate with the brackets in the new location and snap it into place until it clicks.

8. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the gate with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
- Outdoor Use: While the mesh is UV protected, the gate unit should be brought indoors during inclement weather (rain, snow, hail) to prolong its lifespan.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect all components, including the mesh, brackets, and locking mechanism, for any signs of wear, damage, or loose screws. Tighten screws as needed.
9. Troubleshooting
- Gate not retracting smoothly: Ensure the mesh is not twisted or obstructed. If the mesh does not go back in straight, it can get caught at the bottom. Gently guide it back into the casing.
- Loud noise during retraction: This is a normal and intentional safety feature designed to alert you when the gate is being opened. For silent closing, use the two-handed method described in Section 6.2.
- Gate feels loose: Check that all mounting screws are securely tightened and that the gate is properly snapped into the brackets. Re-read installation instructions if necessary.
