User Manual

Model: 939117

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the AXA Slim Steady 939117 Back Light Red. This LED taillight is designed to enhance your visibility and safety while cycling. Featuring a compact design, an integrated reflector, and a capacitor parking light function, it ensures you remain visible even when stopped. This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your new taillight.

2. Safety Information

  • Always ensure the light is securely mounted before riding.
  • Regularly check the light for damage or loose connections.
  • Do not attempt to open or modify the light housing, as this may void the warranty and compromise its water resistance.
  • While the light is rated IPX6 for water resistance (protected against powerful water jets), it is not designed for submersion. Avoid prolonged exposure to heavy rain or direct high-pressure water sprays.
  • Ensure wiring is properly insulated to prevent short circuits.

3. Package Contents

  • AXA Slim Steady 939117 Back Light Red
  • Mounting hardware (pre-attached bolts)

4. Setup and Installation

The AXA Slim Steady 939117 is designed for assembly on a bicycle luggage rack with a 50mm bolt spacing.

4.1 Mounting the Light

  1. Identify the two mounting holes on your bicycle's luggage rack, typically spaced 50mm apart.
  2. Align the pre-attached bolts on the back of the AXA Slim Steady light with these holes.
  3. Secure the light to the rack using appropriate nuts (not included, typically supplied with the rack or bicycle). Ensure the light is oriented correctly with the reflector facing rearward.

4.2 Wiring Connection

This taillight is designed to be powered by a bicycle dynamo. It features two terminals for connection.

  1. Connect the positive (+) wire from your dynamo system to the positive terminal on the light.
  2. Connect the negative (-) or ground wire from your dynamo system to the negative terminal on the light.
  3. Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated to prevent water ingress and short circuits.

5. Operating Instructions

The AXA Slim Steady 939117 is a dynamo-powered light. It does not have an on/off switch and operates automatically when the bicycle is in motion and the dynamo generates power.

  • Automatic Illumination: The LED taillight will illuminate as soon as your bicycle's dynamo generates sufficient power, typically when you start riding.
  • Capacitor Parking Light Function: The integrated capacitor stores energy while you are riding. When you stop, this stored energy powers the light for a period, keeping you visible even when stationary. The duration of the parking light function depends on the charge accumulated and the specific model.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your AXA Slim Steady taillight, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Clean the light regularly with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the plastic housing and reflector.
  • Inspection: Periodically check the mounting bolts and wiring connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Water Resistance: While rated IPX6, avoid directing high-pressure water jets directly at the light, especially at the wiring entry points. Do not submerge the light in water.
  • No User-Serviceable Parts: The light contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt to disassemble it.

7. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your AXA Slim Steady taillight, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Light Does Not Illuminate While Riding:
    • Check the dynamo connection. Ensure wires are securely attached to the light's terminals and the dynamo.
    • Inspect the wiring for any cuts, pinches, or corrosion.
    • Ensure your dynamo is functioning correctly and generating power.
  • Parking Light Function Does Not Work or is Very Short:
    • The capacitor needs sufficient riding time to charge. Ensure you have ridden for a reasonable period before expecting a long parking light duration.
    • Check for any loose connections that might prevent the capacitor from charging or discharging properly.
  • Light Flickers or is Dim:
    • This often indicates a poor or intermittent connection. Re-check all wiring connections.
    • Ensure the dynamo is providing consistent power.

If problems persist after attempting these solutions, please contact AXA customer support or your local dealer.
