Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the tea kettle and all packaging materials. Inspect the kettle for any signs of damage.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the inside of the kettle with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  3. Filling: Remove the lid by lifting the handle. Fill the kettle with fresh water. Do not overfill; fill no higher than just the spout opening to prevent boiling over. The kettle has a 1.75-quart capacity.
  4. Lid Placement: Securely place the lid back on the kettle.

Operating

  1. Placement: Place the filled tea kettle on a stovetop burner. Ensure the kettle is centered on the burner.
  2. Heating: Turn the burner to a medium-high setting. Avoid using excessively high heat, which can damage the kettle's finish or handle.
  3. Whistling Feature: The whistling teakettle alerts you when water is boiling. For safety, it is recommended to move the kettle from the heat source after the whistle has been blown.
  4. Pouring: The kettle features a flip-up spout cover for safe and easy pouring. Use the Bakelite stay-cool handle and trigger to open the spout.

Maintenance

  1. Cleaning: Hand wash is recommended for this tea kettle. Use warm, soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads that could scratch the brushed satin finish.
  2. Drying: Thoroughly dry the kettle after each use to prevent water spots and potential mineral buildup.
  3. Descaling: Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) may build up inside the kettle, especially in hard water areas. To descale, fill the kettle with a solution of equal parts water and white vinegar. Bring to a boil, then let it sit for 15-30 minutes. Empty and rinse thoroughly. Repeat if necessary.

Troubleshooting

  • Whistle is not loud enough: Ensure the lid is securely closed and the spout cover is fully engaged. A loose lid or partially open spout can reduce whistle volume.
  • Rusting or Discoloration: While made of stainless steel, prolonged exposure to moisture or certain minerals can cause discoloration or surface rust. Always dry the kettle thoroughly after use. For existing spots, try a stainless steel cleaner or a paste of baking soda and water.
  • Handle gets hot: The kettle is designed with a Bakelite stay-cool handle. However, prolonged exposure to high heat, especially if flames extend up the sides of the kettle, can cause the handle to heat up. Always use a medium-high heat setting and ensure the flame does not extend beyond the base of the kettle. Use oven mitts if necessary.
  • Water boils over: Ensure the kettle is not overfilled. Water should be filled no higher than the spout opening.
