Setup
1. Battery Installation
The meter requires a 9V battery (not always included). To install or replace the battery:
- Ensure the meter is turned OFF and test leads are disconnected.
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the meter.
- Use a screwdriver to open the battery compartment.
- Insert a new 9V battery, observing correct polarity.
- Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.
2. Connecting Test Leads
For most measurements (voltage, resistance, capacitance, diode, continuity), connect the test leads:
- Insert the red test lead into the VΩHz input terminal.
- Insert the black test lead into the COM (common) input terminal.
For current measurements using the clamp, test leads are not required.
Operating Instructions
Always ensure the meter is set to the correct function and range before making any measurements. Observe all safety precautions.
General Operation
- Rotary Switch: Selects the primary measurement function (e.g., V~ for AC Voltage, A~ for AC Current).
- SELECT Button: Toggles between different measurement types within a single rotary switch position (e.g., AC/DC voltage, resistance/diode/continuity).
- MAX/MIN Button: Records the maximum and minimum readings during a measurement session.
- D.HOLD Button: Freezes the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
- LIGHT Button: Activates the backlight for the display.
- RELA (Relative) Button: Stores the current reading as a reference value and displays subsequent measurements as a deviation from this reference.
- ZERO ADJ Button: Used to zero out the display for DC current measurements before clamping.
- AUTO POWER OFF: The meter automatically turns off after approximately 15 minutes of inactivity to save battery.
1. AC/DC Voltage Measurement
- Connect the red test lead to the VΩHz terminal and the black test lead to the COM terminal.
- Set the rotary switch to the V~ (AC Voltage) or V- (DC Voltage) position. Use the SELECT button to toggle between AC and DC if needed.
- Touch the test probes to the circuit points where voltage is to be measured.
- Read the voltage value on the display.
2. AC/DC Current Measurement (using Clamp)
- Set the rotary switch to the A~ (AC Current) or A- (DC Current) position. Use the SELECT button to toggle between AC and DC if needed.
- For DC current, press ZERO ADJ to zero the display before clamping.
- Open the clamp jaws by pressing the trigger.
- Enclose only one conductor of the circuit within the clamp jaws. Ensure the jaws are fully closed.
- Read the current value on the display.
3. Resistance Measurement
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized before measuring resistance.
- Connect the red test lead to the VΩHz terminal and the black test lead to the COM terminal.
- Set the rotary switch to the Ω position. Use the SELECT button to cycle to resistance mode if other functions are present.
- Touch the test probes across the component or circuit section to be measured.
- Read the resistance value on the display.
4. Frequency Measurement
- Connect the red test lead to the VΩHz terminal and the black test lead to the COM terminal.
- Set the rotary switch to the Hz position.
- Touch the test probes to the circuit points where frequency is to be measured.
- Read the frequency value on the display.
5. Capacitance Measurement
- Ensure the capacitor is fully discharged before measurement.
- Connect the red test lead to the VΩHz terminal and the black test lead to the COM terminal.
- Set the rotary switch to the Capacitance position (often shared with other functions, use SELECT).
- Touch the test probes to the capacitor terminals.
- Read the capacitance value on the display.
6. Temperature Measurement
- Disconnect test leads.
- Insert the K-type thermocouple probe into the VΩHz and COM terminals, observing polarity.
- Set the rotary switch to the °C/°F position. Use the SELECT button to choose between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
- Place the tip of the thermocouple probe on the object or area whose temperature is to be measured.
- Read the temperature value on the display.
7. Diode Test
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized.
- Connect the red test lead to the VΩHz terminal and the black test lead to the COM terminal.
- Set the rotary switch to the Diode position (often shared with resistance/continuity, use SELECT).
- Touch the red probe to the anode and the black probe to the cathode of the diode. A forward voltage drop will be displayed.
- Reverse the probes. The display should show "OL" (Open Loop) for a good diode.
8. Continuity Test
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized.
- Connect the red test lead to the VΩHz terminal and the black test lead to the COM terminal.
- Set the rotary switch to the Continuity position (often shared with resistance/diode, use SELECT).
- Touch the test probes across the component or circuit section.
- If continuity exists (resistance below a certain threshold), the buzzer will sound.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Wipe the meter's casing with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the meter is dry before use.
Battery Replacement
When the battery low indicator appears on the display, replace the 9V battery as described in the "Setup" section. Remove the battery if the meter will not be used for an extended period.
Storage
Store the meter in its carrying pouch in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
- No Display or Faint Display: Check battery charge and ensure it is correctly installed. Replace if necessary.
- "OL" (Overload) Indication: The measured value exceeds the selected range. Switch to a higher range or ensure the measurement is within the meter's capabilities.
- Inaccurate Readings:
- Ensure test leads are fully inserted and making good contact.
- Verify the correct function and range are selected.
- For current measurements, ensure only one conductor is within the clamp jaws.
- Check for external interference or strong magnetic fields.
- Continuity Buzzer Not Sounding: Ensure the circuit is de-energized and the resistance is below the continuity threshold.
