1. Introduction

4. Setup

Attaching the Backing Plate:

1. Ensure the polisher is unplugged from the power source.
2. Align the 125mm/5in backing plate (model 980.027N) with the spindle on the polisher.
3. Securely screw the backing plate onto the spindle until it is hand-tight. Do not overtighten.

Attaching Polishing Pads:

The polisher is designed to accommodate 6-inch polishing pads. These pads attach to the backing plate via a hook-and-loop (Velcro) system.

1. Ensure the backing plate is clean and free of debris.
2. Align the polishing pad centrally with the backing plate.
3. Press the pad firmly onto the backing plate to ensure a secure attachment.

5. Operating Instructions

Powering On and Off:

1. Connect the polisher to a suitable power outlet.
2. To start the polisher, press the trigger switch. The tool features a soft start, which provides an acceleration ramp to prevent accidental dispersion of product.
3. To maintain continuous operation without holding the trigger, engage the trigger lock button (refer to Figure 2).
4. To turn off the polisher, release the trigger switch or disengage the trigger lock.

Adjusting Speed:

The RUPES LHR 15ES features a variable speed dial, allowing you to adjust the oscillation speed from 1 to 6 settings. This enables precise control based on the task and product being used.

1. Locate the speed dial on the top of the polisher body.
2. Rotate the dial to select the desired speed setting. Lower settings are typically used for spreading product or finishing, while higher settings are for compounding and defect removal.

Polishing Technique:

• Apply a small amount of polishing compound or polish directly to the pad.
• Place the pad flat on the surface to be polished before turning on the tool.
• Start the polisher on a low speed to spread the product evenly over a small section (e.g., 2x2 feet).
• Increase the speed to the desired setting and work in overlapping passes, maintaining even pressure.
• The anti-spinning feature helps prevent high-speed rotations, reducing the risk of scratches.
• The electronic feedback control maintains consistent power and speed even when pressure is applied.
• Avoid tilting the polisher, as this can concentrate pressure and heat, potentially damaging the paint.

6. Maintenance

Cleaning the Polisher:

• Always unplug the tool before cleaning.
• Wipe down the exterior of the polisher with a clean, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or solvents.
• Ensure ventilation openings are clear of dust and debris to prevent overheating.

Pad Care:

• Remove pads from the backing plate immediately after use. The hook-and-loop material on the backing plate can be aggressive, and leaving pads attached for extended periods may cause them to bond or rip upon removal.
• Clean pads thoroughly after each use according to the pad manufacturer's instructions.
• Inspect pads for wear, tear, or contamination before each use. Replace damaged pads.
