Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your Dosy TFC-3001 SWR Watt Meter with AM Frequency Counter. The TFC-3001 is designed to measure Standing Wave Ratio (SWR), RF power, and AM frequency for CB and Ham radio applications. Please read this manual thoroughly before use to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your device.

Setup
- Connect the Radio: Connect your radio's output to the TX socket on the rear panel of the TFC-3001 using a suitable coaxial cable.
- Connect the Antenna or Dummy Load: Connect your antenna or a dummy load to the ANT socket on the rear panel. When performing initial power measurements or testing, it is highly recommended to use a dummy load that can safely handle the maximum transmission power of your radio to prevent damage to the meter or radio.
- Power Range Selection: On the front panel, locate the yellow power range switch. For initial power measurements, always set this switch to the 100W position. This prevents potential damage to the meter if your radio's output power is high. If a more precise reading is needed for lower power, you can switch to 10W after confirming the power output is within that range.
- Measurement Mode Selection: Locate the blue switch on the front panel. For power measurement, set this switch to POWER mode.
- Forward/Reverse Power Selection: Locate the red switch. When in POWER mode, this switch allows you to select between FWD (Forward Power) and REF (Reverse Power). For standard power output measurement, set it to FWD.
Operating Instructions
Measuring RF Power
- Ensure the setup is complete as described in the Setup section, with the yellow switch set to 100W, the blue switch to POWER, and the red switch to FWD.
- Key your radio's microphone to transmit. Observe the RF Power meter. The needle will indicate the forward power output in watts.
- If the power reading is below 10W, you may switch the yellow power range switch to 10W for a more precise reading.
- To measure reflected power, switch the red switch to REF while transmitting.
Measuring SWR (Standing Wave Ratio)
- Ensure your antenna is connected to the ANT socket and your radio to the TX socket.
- Set the blue switch to SWR mode.
- SWR Calibration:
- Set the red switch to SET SWR.
- Rotate the CAL knob (usually on the left side of the front panel) fully counter-clockwise.
- Key your radio's microphone to transmit. While transmitting, slowly rotate the CAL knob clockwise until the meter needle aligns with the CAL mark (often indicated by a red triangle or specific line) on the SWR scale.
- Release the microphone. The meter is now calibrated for SWR measurement.
- SWR Reading:
- Set the red switch to SWR.
- Key your radio's microphone to transmit. The meter needle will now indicate the SWR value.
- A reading in the green zone (typically 1.0 to 1.5) indicates a good match between your radio and antenna.
- A reading in the red zone (typically above 2.0) indicates a poor match, which can lead to reduced performance and potential damage to your radio. Adjust your antenna system if the SWR is high.
Measuring AM Frequency
The TFC-3001 features a built-in AM frequency counter. The digital display on the front panel will show the frequency of the transmitted signal when the radio is keyed. Ensure your radio is transmitting in AM mode for accurate readings.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the meter. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the finish or internal components.
- Storage: Store the meter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures when not in use.
- Connection Integrity: Regularly check all coaxial cable connections for tightness and corrosion. Loose or corroded connections can affect measurement accuracy and radio performance.
Troubleshooting
- No Meter Movement:
- Check all cable connections between the radio, meter, and antenna/dummy load.
- Ensure the radio is transmitting power.
- Verify the power range switch (yellow) is set appropriately (e.g., 100W for initial tests).
- Inaccurate Readings:
- Ensure SWR calibration is performed correctly before taking SWR readings.
- Check for damaged coaxial cables or connectors.
- Confirm the correct measurement mode (POWER or SWR) is selected.
- High SWR Readings:
- This indicates an issue with your antenna system. Inspect the antenna for damage, proper tuning, or incorrect length for the operating frequency.
- Ensure the antenna is properly grounded (if applicable).
