4. Setup

  1. Placement: Place the aspirator on a stable, flat, and dry surface, ensuring adequate space for ventilation.
  2. Connect Collection Jar: Securely attach the 1000 ml collection jar to the designated holder on the side of the main unit. Ensure the lid is tightly sealed.
  3. Connect Tubing:
    • Connect one end of the short silicone tube to the 'VACUUM' port on the collection jar lid.
    • Connect the other end of this short tube to the suction inlet on the main unit (usually marked 'SUCTION' or similar).
    • Connect one end of the longer silicone tube to the 'PATIENT' port on the collection jar lid. This end will connect to the patient catheter.
  4. Install Bacterial Filter: Insert the bacterial filter between the 'VACUUM' port on the collection jar lid and the suction inlet of the main unit. This prevents fluid overflow and protects the pump. Ensure the filter is correctly oriented according to any arrows on its casing.
  5. Power Connection: Connect the power cord to the aspirator's power inlet and then plug it into a suitable electrical outlet (220-230 V/50-60 Hz).

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Power On: Press the green power switch (marked with 'I/O') located on the front panel to turn on the device. The indicator light should illuminate.
  2. Adjust Suction: Use the 'SUCTION CONTROL' knob on the front panel to adjust the desired vacuum level. Turn clockwise to increase suction and counter-clockwise to decrease it.
  3. Monitor Vacuum: Observe the vacuum gauge on the front panel to ensure the desired suction pressure is achieved. The gauge displays pressure in mmHg and kPa.
  4. Connect Catheter: Attach the appropriate sterile suction catheter to the free end of the patient tubing.
  5. Perform Aspiration: Carefully perform the aspiration procedure as directed by a medical professional.
  6. Power Off: After use, press the power switch to turn off the device.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the device's longevity and hygienic operation.

6.1. Collection Jar

  • Empty the collection jar after each use or when the fluid level approaches the maximum fill line.
  • The 1000 ml collection jar is autoclavable at 121°C. An optional jar is available that can be autoclaved at 134°C.
  • Wash the jar and lid thoroughly with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse well and sterilize as appropriate.
  • Ensure the safety float valve in the lid is clean and moves freely to prevent overflow.

6.2. Tubing and Filter

  • Clean the suction tubing after each use by aspirating clean water through it.
  • Replace the bacterial filter regularly, especially if it becomes wet, discolored, or shows signs of contamination. The filter is disposable.

6.3. Main Unit

  • Wipe the exterior of the main unit with a soft cloth dampened with a mild disinfectant.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Ensure no liquids enter the internal components of the device.
