Safety Information

While the Milescraft AngleFinder is a hand-powered tool with no moving parts that pose significant hazards, it is important to observe general workshop safety practices:

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with tools, especially when using the AngleFinder in conjunction with power tools like miter saws.
  • Keep your work area clean and well-lit.
  • Ensure the AngleFinder is clean and free of debris before and after use to maintain accuracy.
  • Store the tool in a safe place to prevent damage.

Product Components

The Milescraft 8402 AngleFinder consists of the following main components:

  • Main Arms: Two hinged arms that pivot to match the desired angle.
  • Angle Divider: A central yellow component that bisects the measured angle, providing the correct setting for miter saw cuts.
  • Locking Lever: A black lever with a red button used to secure the arms at the desired angle.
  • Retractable Edge Guides: Red sliding guides on the arms for precise alignment during layout.
  • Bar Clamp Notches: Integrated notches for holding bar clamps upright.

Setup

The Milescraft AngleFinder requires minimal setup. Upon unboxing, inspect the tool for any signs of damage. Ensure the locking lever operates smoothly and the arms pivot freely before use. No assembly is required.

Operating Instructions

The AngleFinder is designed for transferring and replicating angles accurately. It does not provide an exact angle measurement in degrees but rather the precise angle needed for miter cuts.

1. Finding Angles (Inside and Outside Corners)

  • For Inside Corners:

Place the AngleFinder into the inside corner you wish to measure. Ensure both arms are flush against the surfaces. Press the locking lever to secure the angle.

Milescraft 8402 AngleFinder placed in an inside corner of a wall, with its arms flush against the two surfaces.

The AngleFinder is shown positioned in an inside corner, demonstrating how its arms conform to the angle of the two intersecting surfaces. The tool is black and yellow, with a red locking mechanism visible.

  • For Outside Corners:

Position the AngleFinder around the outside corner, ensuring both arms are flush against the surfaces. Press the locking lever to secure the angle.

This image illustrates the AngleFinder being used to measure an outside corner, with its arms extended to align with the two surfaces forming the corner. The tool's black and yellow design is clearly visible against the light wood.

2. Angle Divider for Miter Saw Setup

Once an angle is locked, the central yellow angle divider automatically bisects the angle. This bisected angle is the exact setting you need for your miter saw to achieve a perfect joint.

  • With the angle locked, place the AngleFinder on your miter saw's table.
  • Align the saw blade with the edge of the yellow angle divider.
  • Adjust your miter saw's angle until it matches the AngleFinder's bisected angle.
  • Make your cut.

Figure 4: Using AngleFinder with a Miter Saw

This image demonstrates the AngleFinder positioned on a miter saw, with the saw blade adjusted to align with the tool's angle divider. This setup ensures accurate miter cuts that perfectly match the measured corner angle.

3. Retractable Edge Guides

The retractable red edge guides can be extended to provide additional stability and accuracy when marking or transferring angles on flat surfaces.

4. Bar Clamp Notches

The integrated notches on the AngleFinder's arms are designed to hold bar clamps upright, providing a convenient third hand during assembly or gluing processes.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and accuracy of your Milescraft AngleFinder:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the tool clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth after each use to remove dust, sawdust, or other debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store the AngleFinder in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keeping it in its original packaging or a dedicated tool drawer can prevent scratches and damage.
  • Lubrication: The hinge mechanism is designed for smooth operation and typically does not require lubrication. If movement becomes stiff, a small amount of dry lubricant (e.g., silicone spray) can be applied, but avoid over-lubricating.

Troubleshooting

Most issues with the AngleFinder are related to improper use or debris affecting its function.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Arms do not hold angle securely.Locking lever not fully engaged or worn. Debris in hinge mechanism.Ensure the locking lever is fully pressed. Clean the hinge area thoroughly. If the lever is worn, contact support.
Inaccurate angle transfer.Arms not flush against surfaces. Tool not positioned correctly on miter saw.Ensure the AngleFinder arms are pressed firmly and evenly against both surfaces. Double-check alignment with the miter saw blade and the angle divider.
