Please read this manual thoroughly before using the tapes to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

2. Setup

Using JVC T-120 SX Gold VHS Tapes requires a functional VHS video cassette recorder (VCR).

2.1 Unpacking the Tapes

  • Carefully remove the VHS tapes from their packaging.
  • Inspect each tape for any visible damage. Do not use tapes that appear damaged.

2.2 Loading the Tape into a VCR

  1. Ensure your VCR is powered on and ready.
  2. Open the VCR's tape loading slot.
  3. Insert the VHS tape into the slot with the label facing upwards, ensuring it is oriented correctly.
  4. Gently push the tape until the VCR automatically pulls it in. Do not force the tape.

3. Operation

These tapes are designed for both recording and playback of video and audio content.

3.1 Recording

  • After loading the tape, ensure the VCR is set to record mode. Refer to your VCR's manual for specific instructions.
  • Begin recording your desired content. The JVC T-120 SX Gold tapes offer up to 6 hours of recording time in SP (Standard Play) mode. Longer recording times may be available in LP (Long Play) or EP/SLP (Extended Play/Super Long Play) modes, but may result in reduced video quality.
  • To prevent accidental erasure of recorded content, locate the small tab on the spine of the VHS cassette. Break off this tab to enable write protection. Once broken, the tape cannot be recorded over unless the tab is covered with adhesive tape.

3.2 Playback

  • Load the recorded tape into your VCR.
  • Press the PLAY button on your VCR or remote control.
  • Adjust tracking if necessary for optimal picture quality.

4. Maintenance

Proper care and storage will extend the life of your VHS tapes and preserve your recordings.

  • Storage: Store tapes vertically in their protective cases, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
  • Magnetic Fields: Keep tapes away from strong magnetic fields, such as those produced by speakers, televisions, or other electronic devices, as these can erase or damage recordings.
  • Dust and Debris: Avoid exposing the tape to dust and debris. Always return the tape to its protective sleeve or case when not in use.
  • Rewinding: Always fully rewind tapes to the beginning after viewing to ensure even tension and prevent damage to the tape edges.
  • Cleaning: Do not attempt to clean the tape itself. If your VCR is producing poor quality playback, it may require head cleaning. Refer to your VCR's manual for maintenance instructions.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues, consider the following common solutions:
