1. Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the Schock Drain and Overflow Fitting, specifically designed for the Schock TYPOS D-150S built-in sink.
This fitting includes a rotary eccentric mechanism with a Bowden cable for remote waste operation. Please read these instructions carefully before installation to ensure proper function and longevity of the product.
2. Compatibility
This drain and overflow fitting is specifically designed for the following Schock built-in sink model:
- Schock TYPOS D-150S
Important Note:
The complete waste fitting is only suitable for TYPOS D-150S sinks manufactured from March 2013 (03/2013) onwards. For sink series manufactured up to February 2013 (02/2013), it is essential to replace all existing built-in parts with the components provided in this new waste fitting kit to ensure proper compatibility and function.
3. Components Included
The package for the Schock Drain and Overflow Fitting includes the following components:
- Drain and overflow assembly
- Rotary eccentric mechanism with Bowden cable
- Rotary knob (chrome finish)
- Cover plate (chrome finish)
- 3.5-inch basket strainer
Please Note:
An odor trap (siphon) is not included in the scope of delivery and must be purchased separately if required.
4. Installation
Installation should be performed by a qualified professional or an experienced individual following local plumbing codes. Ensure all necessary tools are available before beginning the installation process.
4.1. Preparation
- Ensure the water supply to the sink area is turned off.
- Clear the area under the sink for easy access.
- Unpack all components and verify that all parts listed in Section 3 are present.
4.2. Assembly Steps
Refer to the diagram below for a visual guide to the assembly of the drain and overflow fitting.

Figure 1: Exploded view of the Schock drain and overflow fitting, showing the main drain assembly, the overflow pipe, the remote eccentric control mechanism with its cable, and the secondary basin drain connection. The components are depicted ready for assembly.
- Main Drain Assembly: Install the main drain body into the larger sink opening. Ensure proper sealing with gaskets provided. Tighten the securing nut from underneath the sink.
- Overflow Connection: Connect the overflow pipe from the overflow opening in the sink basin to the designated inlet on the main drain body. Secure all connections to prevent leaks.
- Secondary Basin Drain: For sinks with a half basin, install the smaller basket strainer into the secondary basin opening. Connect it to the main drain assembly using the provided piping.
- Rotary Eccentric Mechanism:
- Mount the rotary eccentric control mechanism onto the designated hole on the sink surface.
- Connect the Bowden cable from the control mechanism to the lever on the main drain basket strainer. Ensure the cable moves freely and operates the strainer plug smoothly.
- Install the chrome rotary knob and cover plate onto the control mechanism.
- Connecting to Siphon (Not Included): Attach your existing or new siphon (odor trap) to the outlet of the main drain assembly. Ensure all connections are watertight.
4.3. Leak Test
After installation, slowly turn on the water supply and fill the sink. Carefully inspect all connections for any signs of leaks. If leaks are detected, tighten the connections as necessary. Do not overtighten.
5. Operation
The Schock Drain and Overflow Fitting features a remote waste operation via the rotary eccentric mechanism.
- To Close the Drain: Rotate the chrome knob on the sink surface clockwise until the basket strainer plug closes, sealing the drain.
- To Open the Drain: Rotate the chrome knob counter-clockwise until the basket strainer plug lifts, allowing water to drain.
The overflow function will automatically engage if the water level in the sink rises above the overflow opening, preventing spills.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance will ensure the longevity and proper function of your drain and overflow fitting.
- Cleaning: Clean the chrome surfaces of the rotary knob and cover plate with a soft cloth and mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive sponges, which can damage the finish.
- Basket Strainer: Periodically remove the basket strainer from the main drain and clean any food debris or particles to prevent blockages.
- Cable Check: Occasionally check the Bowden cable for smooth operation. If it feels stiff, a small amount of silicone lubricant can be applied to the cable housing, if accessible.
- Leak Inspection: Regularly inspect the connections under the sink for any signs of leaks, especially after heavy use.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Slow Draining | Basket strainer clogged; partial blockage in pipes. | Clean basket strainer. Check siphon and drain pipes for blockages. |
| Leaks from connections | Loose connections; damaged gaskets. | Tighten connections. Inspect and replace damaged gaskets if necessary. |
| Remote drain not operating smoothly | Bowden cable kinked or stiff; debris in mechanism. | Check cable for kinks. Clean mechanism. Apply silicone lubricant if needed. |
| Water not draining completely | Basket strainer not fully opening. | Adjust Bowden cable tension. Ensure no obstructions prevent full opening. |
If you encounter problems not listed here or if the suggested solutions do not resolve the issue, please contact a qualified plumber or Schock customer support.
