DENON DP-2700
DENON DP-2700 Direct Drive Player System
Instruction Manual
Introduction
The DENON DP-2700 is a high-performance direct drive player system designed with a focus on both excellent basic performance and robust operability and durability. This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting your DP-2700 to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
The direct drive method is employed, where the turntable is directly connected to the motor shaft, eliminating the need for reduction mechanisms like belts or idlers. This design contributes to smoother rotation and reduced vibration.
The servo circuit utilizes DENON's unique high-precision magnetic recording method for speed detection, ensuring highly accurate speed control and excellent wow and flutter characteristics. This system maintains stable rotation speed even under varying load conditions and is unaffected by power fluctuations or temperature changes.

Setup
Unpacking and Placement
- Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging for future transport or storage.
- Place the DP-2700 on a stable, level surface, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive vibration.
- Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.
Assembly
- Attach the turntable platter to the motor shaft. The direct drive system ensures a direct connection without belts.
- Mount your preferred cartridge onto the headshell. The tonearm is designed for light stylus pressure cartridges.
- Connect the tonearm output cable to your amplifier's phono input. The unit uses a special low-capacitance output cord.
- Connect the power cord to an AC 100V, 50Hz/60Hz power outlet.
Tonearm Adjustment
- Stylus Pressure Adjustment: Use the micrometer-type direct reading system to set the stylus pressure between 0-3g (0.5g increments). Refer to your cartridge's specifications for the recommended tracking force.
- Arm Height Adjustment: The arm height can be adjusted from 40mm to 50mm to accommodate different cartridges and ensure proper VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle).
- Anti-Skating: This model does not feature an inside force canceller, based on DENON's professional use experience.
Operating Instructions
Basic Operation
- Place a record on the 5mm thick rubber mat, which is anti-static treated for easy handling.
- Select the desired rotation speed (33 1/3 or 45 rpm) using the speed selector switch.
- Adjust the rotation speed fine-tuning if necessary (±3% for each speed, independently adjustable).
- Gently lift the tonearm using the oil-damped arm lifter.
- Position the tonearm over the desired groove on the record.
- Lower the tonearm slowly using the arm lifter.
- At the end of the record, lift the tonearm and return it to its rest.
Speed Control
The DP-2700 employs a voltage servo system based on frequency detection for precise speed control. This ensures stable playback even with variations in stylus pressure or other load conditions. The built-in DC stabilized power supply and temperature compensation further enhance speed stability, making it immune to power frequency, voltage fluctuations, or temperature changes.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Regularly wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a slightly damp cloth and then dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Dust Cover: Keep the dust cover closed when not in use to protect the turntable from dust and debris.
- Stylus Care: Clean your stylus regularly with a soft brush designed for stylus cleaning.
- Rubber Mat: The 5mm thick rubber mat has an anti-static treatment. Clean it periodically with a damp cloth if necessary.
- Bearing Maintenance: The tonearm's rotation bearing sections are designed for high sensitivity and reliability, similar to broadcast station arms. They are protected by miniature bearings and special elastic materials, requiring minimal user maintenance.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power | Power cord not connected; Power outlet issue | Ensure power cord is securely plugged in; Test power outlet with another device |
| No sound | Amplifier not on; Incorrect input selected on amplifier; Cartridge/stylus issue; Cables not connected properly | Turn on amplifier; Select correct phono input; Check cartridge/stylus for damage; Verify all audio cables are securely connected |
| Incorrect playback speed | Wrong speed selected; Fine-tuning adjustment needed | Select correct 33 1/3 or 45 rpm; Use the fine-tuning control to adjust speed |
| Wow and Flutter (speed fluctuations) | Rare, but could indicate a fault | The DP-2700 is designed for excellent wow and flutter characteristics. If persistent, contact service. |
| Excessive vibration/noise | Unstable surface; External interference | Ensure unit is on a stable, level surface; Check for nearby sources of vibration or electromagnetic interference. The unit has excellent vibration damping. |
