Quantum QXA2000.1D Mono QXA Amplifier User Manual

Model: QXA2000.1D

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Quantum QXA2000.1D Mono QXA Amplifier. This amplifier is designed to provide high-quality audio performance for your vehicle's sound system. This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your amplifier. Please read it thoroughly before attempting installation or use.

2. Safety Information

Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury or damage to the amplifier or vehicle:

  • Disconnect the vehicle's battery negative terminal before any installation or wiring.
  • Ensure all wiring is properly routed and secured to prevent pinching or damage.
  • Use appropriate gauge wiring for power and ground connections as specified.
  • Avoid installing the amplifier in locations exposed to direct sunlight, excessive heat, moisture, or dust.
  • Do not open the amplifier casing. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
  • Ensure proper ventilation around the amplifier to prevent overheating.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all items are present in the package:

  • Quantum QXA2000.1D Mono QXA Amplifier
  • Mounting hardware (screws)
  • User Manual (this document)

4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Mounting Location

Choose a mounting location that is dry, well-ventilated, and protected from direct sunlight or excessive vibration. Common locations include under a seat, in the trunk, or behind a panel. Ensure sufficient space for wiring and air circulation.

The amplifier dimensions are approximately 38.9 x 21.9 x 4.8 centimetres (L x W x H).

4.2 Wiring Connections

All wiring should be performed with the vehicle's battery disconnected.

  1. Power (BATT+): Connect a heavy-gauge power cable (e.g., 4 AWG or larger, depending on power requirements) directly from the positive terminal of the vehicle's battery to the BATT+ terminal on the amplifier. Install an appropriate fuse holder with a fuse (not included) within 18 inches (45 cm) of the battery.
  2. Ground (GND): Connect a heavy-gauge ground cable of the same size as the power cable from the GND terminal on the amplifier to a clean, unpainted metal surface of the vehicle's chassis. Ensure a good electrical connection.
  3. Remote (REM): Connect a remote turn-on wire (e.g., 18 AWG) from the REM terminal on the amplifier to the remote output of your head unit or a switched 12V source. This wire turns the amplifier on and off with your head unit.
  4. RCA Input: Connect RCA cables from the pre-out (low-level) outputs of your head unit to the RCA input jacks on the amplifier.
  5. Speaker Output: Connect your subwoofer(s) to the speaker output terminals on the amplifier. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -). This is a mono amplifier, designed for a single subwoofer or multiple subwoofers wired for a mono load. Refer to your subwoofer's specifications for proper impedance matching. The amplifier supports 1 OHM stereo capability, meaning it can handle loads down to 1 ohm.

4.3 Initial Settings

After all connections are made and verified, reconnect the vehicle's battery.

  • Gain Control: Start with the gain control set to minimum. Gradually increase the gain until the desired volume is achieved without distortion. This control matches the amplifier's input sensitivity to the output of your head unit.
  • Crossover (LPF): The QXA2000.1D features a variable low-pass filter (LPF). Adjust this control to filter out high frequencies from your subwoofer, typically between 50Hz and 200Hz, depending on your subwoofer and system.
  • Bass Boost: Use the bass boost control sparingly. Excessive bass boost can lead to distortion and potential damage to your speakers. Start at minimum and adjust as needed.

5. Operation

Once properly installed and configured, the Quantum QXA2000.1D amplifier will power on automatically when your head unit is turned on, via the remote turn-on wire. The amplifier's status indicator (usually an LED) will illuminate to confirm operation.

Adjust volume and basic tone controls through your head unit. Fine-tune the amplifier's gain, crossover, and bass boost settings as described in the "Initial Settings" section to achieve optimal sound quality and system balance.

The Class D Circuitry and MOSFET Power Supply ensure efficient power delivery and stable performance.

6. Maintenance

The Quantum QXA2000.1D amplifier requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the exterior of the amplifier with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Inspection: Occasionally check all wiring connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion. Inspect the fuse in the power line for any signs of damage.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the amplifier's heat sinks (QSINK Heat Management System) are not obstructed, allowing for proper airflow and cooling.

7. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your amplifier, consult the following table before contacting support:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No power / Amplifier does not turn on
  • Blown fuse
  • Poor power or ground connection
  • No remote turn-on signal
  • Vehicle battery discharged
  • Check and replace fuse
  • Verify all power and ground connections are secure
  • Check remote wire connection and head unit output
  • Charge or replace battery
No sound output
  • RCA input cables disconnected or faulty
  • Speaker wires disconnected or shorted
  • Gain set too low
  • Head unit volume too low
  • Check RCA connections
  • Verify speaker wiring and check for shorts
  • Increase gain control
  • Increase head unit volume
Distorted sound
  • Gain set too high
  • Bass boost set too high
  • Poor ground connection
  • Speaker impedance mismatch
  • Decrease gain control
  • Reduce bass boost
  • Verify ground connection
  • Check speaker impedance (ensure it's 1 ohm or higher)
Amplifier overheats (Protection mode)
  • Insufficient ventilation
