Important Safety Instructions

Please read and understand all instructions before beginning installation. Failure to do so may result in electric shock, fire, or other injuries that could be hazardous or fatal.

  • WARNING: Risk of electric shock. Disconnect power at the fuse box or circuit breaker before installing or servicing.
  • All electrical connections must be in accordance with local codes, ordinances, or the National Electric Code (NEC). Contact a qualified electrician if you are unfamiliar with proper electrical wiring connections.
  • This fixture is designed for outdoor, damp location use. Ensure all connections are properly sealed to prevent water intrusion.
  • Do not install any fixture assembly closer than 6 inches from any combustible material.
  • Use only the specified bulb type and wattage. Exceeding the maximum wattage may cause overheating and damage to the fixture.
  • Always handle the fixture with care. Avoid dropping or striking the fixture, as this may cause damage.
  • Proposition 65 Warning: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.

Installation Instructions

Before beginning installation, ensure the power is turned off at the circuit breaker.

1. Mounting the Fixture

  1. Turn off power at the main circuit breaker or fuse box.
  2. Carefully unpack the fixture and its components.
  3. Attach the mounting bracket (from hardware pack) to the existing junction box in the ceiling using the provided mounting screws. Ensure the bracket is securely fastened.
  4. Determine the desired hanging length for the pendant. Adjust the chain length as needed by opening and closing links with pliers.
  5. Thread the fixture wires through the chain and canopy.

2. Wiring the Fixture

  1. Connect the fixture's black wire to the house's black (hot) wire using a wire nut.
  2. Connect the fixture's white wire to the house's white (neutral) wire using a wire nut.
  3. Connect the fixture's ground wire (bare copper or green) to the house's ground wire and the mounting bracket's ground screw.
  4. Carefully tuck all wires into the junction box.

3. Securing the Canopy and Installing the Bulb

  1. Position the canopy against the ceiling, covering the junction box and mounting bracket. Secure it with the provided screws or decorative nuts.
  2. Install one (1) 60-watt maximum G-Type Incandescent bulb (or equivalent E26 base CFL/LED bulb) into the fixture's socket. Bulb not included.
  3. Turn power back on at the circuit breaker.
  4. Test the light fixture.

Operating Instructions

General Operation

Once installed and powered, the Craftmade Z4401-OBG pendant light operates like any standard light fixture. Use your wall switch to turn the light on or off.

Dimming Functionality

This fixture is dimmable when used with a compatible dimmable bulb (Incandescent, Dimmable CFL, or Dimmable LED) and a dimmer switch. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for the type of bulb you are using. Refer to your dimmer switch's instructions for proper operation.

Maintenance

Cleaning

  • Always turn off the power to the fixture before cleaning.
  • To clean the fixture, wipe it with a soft, dry, or slightly damp cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or polishes as they may damage the finish.

Bulb Replacement

  • Turn off the power to the fixture at the circuit breaker before replacing the bulb.
  • Allow the old bulb to cool completely before touching it.
  • Unscrew the old bulb from the E26 socket.
  • Screw in a new 60-watt maximum G-Type Incandescent bulb or an equivalent E26 base CFL/LED bulb.
  • Restore power and test the new bulb.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your pendant light, refer to the following table for common problems and solutions.

  • Ensure you are using a dimmable bulb with a compatible dimmer switch.
  • Turn off power, check all wire connections, and re-secure if loose.
Fixture hums.
  • Incompatible dimmer switch or bulb.
  • Ensure both the bulb and dimmer switch are compatible with each other and designed for dimming.
