4. Setup and Installation

5. Operating Principles

When the furnace calls for heat, the igniter heats up, and the gas valve opens. As the gas ignites, the flame sensor, which is a small metal rod, becomes exposed to the flame. The flame rectifies a small alternating current (AC) into a direct current (DC) signal. This DC signal is sent to the furnace's control board, confirming the presence of a flame. If the control board does not receive this signal within a few seconds of ignition, it will shut off the gas supply as a safety measure, preventing unburnt gas from accumulating in the combustion chamber.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance of the flame sensor is crucial for reliable furnace operation. A dirty flame sensor is a common cause of furnace malfunctions.
