This image displays the front panel of the TL-SG1008PE switch. It features eight RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet ports, labeled 1 through 8. To the left of the ports are LED indicators for Power, PoE Status, Link/Act, and PoE MAX, providing visual feedback on the switch's operational status and port activity.

Rear Panel

Rear view of the TP-Link TL-SG1008PE switch showing the power input and grounding screw.

The rear panel of the TL-SG1008PE switch is shown here. It includes the AC power input connector (100-240V~ 50/60Hz 2.0A) and a grounding screw for electrical safety.

Setup

  1. Unpack the Switch: Carefully remove the switch and all accessories from the packaging.
  2. Placement: Place the switch on a stable, flat surface such as a desktop, or install it into a 19-inch rack using the provided mounting brackets. Ensure adequate ventilation around the switch.
  3. Connect Power: Connect the provided power cord to the AC power input on the rear panel of the switch and then to a standard electrical outlet. The Power LED on the front panel should illuminate.
  4. Connect Non-PoE Devices: Use standard Ethernet cables to connect your non-PoE network devices (e.g., computers, routers, non-PoE network storage) to any of the RJ45 ports (1-8).
  5. Connect PoE Devices: Use Ethernet cables to connect your PoE-compatible devices (e.g., IP cameras, wireless access points, VoIP phones) to any of the RJ45 ports (1-8). The switch will automatically detect and provide power to these devices if they are PoE-compliant.

Operating Instructions

The TL-SG1008PE is an unmanaged switch, meaning it operates on a plug-and-play basis without requiring any software configuration. Once powered on and connected, it automatically detects network speeds and provides power to connected PoE devices. The LED indicators on the front panel provide real-time status information.

LED Indicators

LEDStatusDescription
PowerOnThe switch is powered on.
PoE StatusOnA PoE device is connected and receiving power.
Link/Act (per port)OnA device is connected to the corresponding port.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Keep the switch clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings on the switch are not blocked to prevent overheating. Maintain adequate space around the device for airflow.
  • Cable Management: Organize network cables to prevent tangles and reduce strain on ports.
  • Power Cycle: If the switch experiences issues, try power cycling it by disconnecting and reconnecting the power cord.

Troubleshooting

  • No Power: If the Power LED is off, ensure the power cord is securely connected to both the switch and a working electrical outlet. Verify the outlet is supplying power.
  • No Link/Connection: If a Link/Act LED is off for a connected device, check the Ethernet cable connection at both ends. Try a different cable or port. Ensure the connected device is powered on and functioning correctly.
  • PoE Device Not Powering On: If a PoE device is not receiving power, check the PoE Status LED for that port. Ensure the device is PoE-compatible (IEEE 802.3af/at). Verify that the total power consumption of all PoE devices does not exceed the switch's 124W budget (check the PoE MAX LED). Try connecting the device to a different PoE port.
  • Slow Network Speed: Ensure all connected devices and cables support Gigabit Ethernet for optimal performance. Check for excessive network traffic or faulty cables.
