2. Setup and Assembly

Proper assembly of your Apeks XTX 200 regulator is crucial for safe and optimal performance. Always ensure all connections are secure and O-rings are in good condition before each dive.

Assembly Steps:

  1. Inspect Components: Before assembly, carefully inspect all parts of the first stage, second stage, and hoses for any signs of damage, wear, or debris. Check O-rings for cracks or flattening.
  2. Connect Hoses to First Stage:
    • Identify the high-pressure (HP) and low-pressure (LP) ports on the first stage. HP ports are typically smaller and fewer in number.
    • Attach the high-pressure hose (e.g., for pressure gauge) to an HP port.
    • Attach the primary second stage hose and the alternate air source (octopus) hose to the LP ports.
    • Ensure all hose connections are hand-tightened, then use an appropriate wrench to secure them firmly, but do not overtighten.

  3. Connect Second Stage to Hose: Attach the primary second stage to its designated low-pressure hose. Ensure the connection is secure.
  4. Diver Changeable Exhaust (DCE) System: The XTX 200 features a DCE system. To change the exhaust tee, gently push down on the locking mechanism and separate the exhaust cover. Align the new exhaust tee and push it into place until it clicks securely.

  5. Connect to Cylinder Valve: Attach the yoke fitting of the first stage to the scuba cylinder valve. Ensure the O-ring on the cylinder valve is present and in good condition. Hand-tighten the yoke screw until snug, then give it an additional quarter turn to ensure a secure seal. Do not overtighten.

Note: Conversion from right-handed to left-handed hose configuration should only be performed by an Apeks Authorized Service Technician.

3. Operating Instructions

The Apeks XTX 200 regulator is designed for intuitive operation, but understanding its features will enhance your diving experience.

Pre-Dive Checks:

  1. Air Supply: Slowly open the cylinder valve and check the pressure gauge. Ensure sufficient air for the planned dive.
  2. Leak Check: Listen for any air leaks from the regulator connections.
  3. Purge Button: Briefly press the purge button on the second stage to ensure air flows freely.
  4. Breathing Test: Take a few breaths from the second stage to confirm smooth air delivery.

In-Water Operation:

  • Adjustable Inhalation Effort: The XTX 200 features an adjustment knob on the second stage. Turn clockwise to increase breathing resistance (suitable for surface swimming or preventing free-flow) and counter-clockwise to decrease resistance for easier breathing underwater.
  • Venturi Lever (Dive/Pre-Dive): The Venturi lever (often marked with + and - or Dive/Pre-Dive) helps prevent free-flow at the surface and provides optimal performance underwater.
    • Set to 'Pre-Dive' or '-' when on the surface or entering the water to reduce the chance of free-flow.
    • Set to 'Dive' or '+' once submerged to maximize airflow and ease of breathing.
  • Environmental Dry Sealing System: The first stage's unique design prevents ice build-up in cold water and protects internal components from contaminants.

4. Maintenance and Care

Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and safe operation of your Apeks XTX 200 regulator.

After Each Dive:

  1. Rinse Thoroughly: Immediately after each dive, rinse the entire regulator in fresh, clean water. Ensure the dust cap is securely in place on the first stage to prevent water entry. Do NOT press the purge button while rinsing unless the first stage is pressurized.
  2. Soak (Optional): For a more thorough rinse, soak the regulator in fresh water for 15-30 minutes.
  3. Dry: Allow the regulator to air dry completely in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight.
  4. Storage: Store the regulator in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and chemicals. Avoid kinking hoses.

Periodic Maintenance:

  • Annual Service: Your Apeks regulator should be serviced annually by an Apeks Authorized Service Technician, or more frequently if you dive often or in harsh conditions. This service includes inspection, cleaning, and replacement of internal components and O-rings.
  • Hose Inspection: Regularly check hoses for cracks, bulges, or other signs of wear. Replace damaged hoses immediately.
  • Mouthpiece Replacement: Replace the mouthpiece if it shows signs of wear, tearing, or discomfort.
