5.1 Power Connection

  1. Ensure the mixer's power switch (Figure 5.1) is in the OFF position.
  2. Connect the supplied power adapter to the 18V DC input on the rear panel of the mixer.
  3. Plug the power adapter into a suitable AC power outlet.
  4. Turn the power switch to the ON position. The power indicator LED on the front panel should illuminate.

5.2 Audio Input Connections

  • Microphones (Channels 1-4): Connect microphones using balanced XLR-F cables to the MIC inputs. If using condenser microphones, activate the +48V Phantom Power switch located in the master section.
  • Line Inputs (Channels 1-4): Connect line-level instruments or devices (e.g., keyboards, guitars with preamps) using balanced 1/4" JACK cables to the LINE inputs.
  • Stereo Line Inputs (Channels 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12): Connect stereo line-level sources (e.g., media players, synthesizers) using 1/4" JACK cables. Use both LEFT and RIGHT inputs for stereo, or only the LEFT input for mono operation.

5.3 Audio Output Connections

  • Main Mix Output: Connect the MAIN MIX LEFT and RIGHT outputs (1/4" JACK) to your power amplifier, powered speakers, or recording device.
  • Control Room Output: Connect C.ROOM LEFT and RIGHT outputs (1/4" JACK) to your studio monitors.
  • Headphone Output: Connect your headphones to the PHONES output (1/4" JACK).

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Input Channels (1-12)

  • GAIN: Adjusts the input sensitivity for the connected microphone or line source. Set this so the PEAK LED flashes only occasionally during the loudest parts of the signal.
  • LO CUT (Channels 1-4): Activates a 75 Hz high-pass filter to remove unwanted low-frequency rumble.
  • EQ (HIGH, MID, LOW - Channels 1-4): These knobs adjust the treble (12 kHz), midrange (2.5 kHz), and bass (80 Hz) frequencies of the input signal. Use them to shape the tone of your instrument or vocal.
  • AUX 1 PRE: Sends a portion of the channel signal to the AUX 1 output, independent of the channel fader. Typically used for monitor mixes.
  • AUX 2 POST / FX: Sends a portion of the channel signal to the AUX 2 output and the internal effects processor, after the channel fader. Typically used for effects sends.
  • PAN (Mono Channels) / BAL (Stereo Channels): Adjusts the position of the channel signal within the stereo field (left to right).
  • PEAK LED: Illuminates when the input signal is too high, indicating potential clipping. Reduce the GAIN if this LED lights up frequently.
  • Channel Fader/Level: Controls the overall volume of the channel sent to the main mix.

6.2 Effects Processor (PROFX)

The Mi12 features a digital effects processor with 256 effects (16 presets x 16 variations).

  • PRESETS: Turn this knob to select one of the 16 effect types (e.g., Hall, Room, Vocal, Plate Reverbs, Delays, Chorus).
  • VARIATION: Turn this knob to select one of the 16 variations for the chosen effect preset.
  • FX TO AUX 1: Controls the amount of the effect signal sent to the AUX 1 output.
  • FX TO MAIN: Controls the amount of the effect signal sent to the main stereo mix.
  • TAP: Press this button to set the tempo for delay effects.

6.3 Master Section

  • MAIN MIX Fader: Controls the overall output volume of the main stereo mix.
  • MAIN MIX Meters: LED meters display the output level of the main mix. Aim for levels around 0 dB during normal operation, avoiding consistent red (clip) indications.
  • C.ROOM / PHONES Level: Adjusts the volume for the Control Room outputs and the Headphone output.
  • PHANTOM ON/OFF: Activates or deactivates +48V phantom power for condenser microphones connected to XLR inputs. Ensure this is OFF before connecting/disconnecting microphones.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the mixer from power before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the surface. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the mixer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Dust Protection: Cover the mixer with a dust cover when not in use to prevent dust accumulation on controls and connectors.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No Sound Output:
    • Check all power connections and ensure the mixer is turned ON.
    • Verify that the MAIN MIX fader is up and not muted.
    • Check individual channel faders and GAIN controls.
    • Ensure output cables are correctly connected to your amplifier/speakers and that they are powered on.
  • Distorted Sound:
    • Reduce the GAIN control on the input channel if the PEAK LED is constantly lit.
    • Lower the channel fader or MAIN MIX fader if the main meters are consistently in the red.
    • Check for faulty cables or connections.
  • Effects Not Working:
    • Ensure the AUX 2 POST / FX knob on the desired channel is turned up.
    • Check the FX TO MAIN knob in the effects section.
    • Verify that an effect preset and variation are selected.
