1. Product Overview

2. Setup

Before operating your Behringer X32 Compact, ensure proper connections and power-up sequence.

2.1 Power Connection:

Connect the provided power cable to the IEC inlet on the rear panel of the mixer and then to a suitable power outlet. Ensure the power switch is in the OFF position before connecting.

2.2 Input/Output Connections:

• Microphone/Line Inputs: Connect microphones or line-level sources to the XLR/TRS combo jacks on the rear panel. The X32 Compact features 16 programmable Midas preamps.
• Auxiliary Inputs/Outputs: Use the 1/4" TRS or RCA connectors for additional auxiliary devices.
• Main Outputs: Connect your main PA system or studio monitors to the XLR main outputs.
• Digital Connectivity: Utilize the AES50 ports for digital snake connections (e.g., Behringer S16) or for cascading multiple X32 consoles. The Ultranet port is for Behringer's P16 Personal Monitoring System.
• USB Audio Interface: Connect the mixer to your computer via the USB 2.0 port for multi-track recording and playback.

2.3 Initial Power-Up:

Once all connections are secure, flip the power switch to the ON position. The mixer will perform a self-test and load its operating system. The motorized faders will calibrate to their stored positions.

3. Operating the Mixer

The X32 Compact offers intuitive control over all mixing parameters through its physical controls and integrated display.

3.1 Channel Strips and Layers:

The mixer features 17 motorized faders. The first 8 faders control input channels 1-8 by default. Use the "CH 1-8" and "CH 9-16" buttons in the INPUTS section to switch between layers of input channels. Additional layers for channels 17-24 and 25-32 can be accessed by pressing the corresponding buttons. The LCD scribble strips above each fader provide visual labeling for the active channel.

3.2 Channel Processing:

Each input channel offers comprehensive processing capabilities:

• Config/Preamp: Adjust input gain, engage 48V phantom power, and set phase.
• Gate: Control noise gates with adjustable threshold.
• Dynamics: Apply compression or expansion with threshold and ratio controls.
• Equalizer: Utilize the 4-band parametric EQ for precise tone shaping. The 7" display provides a visual representation of the EQ curve.
• Bus Sends: Route channels to any of the 16 mix buses for monitor mixes or effects sends.

3.3 Effects and Routing:

The X32 Compact includes a Virtual FX Rack with 8 true-stereo (16 mono) multi-effects processors. These can be used for reverbs, delays, modulation effects, and more. Routing is highly flexible, allowing you to send any input to any output, including the 6 matrix mixes.

3.4 Scene Management:

The console's scene management system allows you to save and recall complete mixer setups. This is ideal for live performances with multiple bands or different service configurations. Use the SCENES section to store and load your custom settings.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your X32 Compact.

• Cleaning: Regularly wipe down the control surface with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents. For stubborn grime, a slightly damp cloth with mild soap can be used, followed by immediate drying.
• Dust Protection: When not in use, cover the mixer with a dust cover to prevent dust and debris from accumulating on faders, knobs, and the display.
• Ventilation: Ensure proper airflow around the mixer. Do not block ventilation grilles on the top or rear panels. Overheating can damage internal components.
• Cable Management: Keep cables organized and free from kinks or excessive tension to prevent damage to connectors and internal wiring.
• Software Updates: Periodically check the Behringer website for firmware updates. Keeping your mixer's firmware up-to-date ensures access to the latest features and bug fixes.

• No Power:
  • Check if the power cable is securely connected to both the mixer and the power outlet.
