Introduction
The Cooler Master V8 GTS is a high-performance CPU cooler designed to efficiently dissipate heat from your processor, ensuring stable operation and enhanced system longevity. Featuring a horizontal vapor chamber, 8 heatpipes, aluminum fins, and dual 120mm fans with red LEDs, this cooler provides robust cooling for both Intel and AMD platforms.
This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your V8 GTS CPU cooler. Please read it thoroughly before proceeding with installation.
Safety Information
- Ensure your computer system is powered off and unplugged from the wall outlet before installation.
- Handle components with care to avoid damage.
- Wear an anti-static wrist strap to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage to sensitive components.
- Keep small parts away from children.
- Refer to your motherboard manual for specific CPU socket and clearance information.
Package Contents
Verify that all components are present before beginning installation:
- Cooler Master V8 GTS CPU Cooler (with pre-installed fans)
- Universal Mounting Kit (backplates, brackets, screws, standoffs)
- Thermal Paste
- Installation Guide (this document)
Setup and Installation
The Cooler Master V8 GTS is a large cooler. It is highly recommended to install it with the motherboard removed from the computer case to ensure proper access and secure mounting. Ensure adequate case clearance before installation.
Step 1: Prepare the CPU and Motherboard
- Ensure the CPU is correctly seated in its socket.
- Clean the CPU surface with isopropyl alcohol to remove any old thermal paste.
- Important: Peel off the protective plastic film from the cooler's contact surface before applying thermal paste or mounting.
Step 2: Install the Backplate and Mounting Brackets
- Identify the correct backplate and mounting brackets for your CPU socket (Intel LGA 2011, 1366, 1156, 1155, 1150, 775 or AMD FM2, FM1, AM3+, AM3, AM2+, AM2).
- Attach the backplate to the rear of the motherboard, aligning the holes with the CPU socket mounting holes.
- Secure the appropriate standoffs and mounting brackets to the front of the motherboard, ensuring they are finger-tight.
Step 3: Apply Thermal Paste
Apply a small, pea-sized amount of thermal paste to the center of the CPU's integrated heat spreader (IHS). Do not spread it; the pressure from the cooler will distribute it evenly.
Step 4: Mount the V8 GTS Cooler
- Carefully align the V8 GTS cooler with the mounting brackets on the motherboard.
- Lower the cooler onto the CPU, ensuring the contact surface makes full contact with the thermal paste.
- Secure the cooler to the mounting brackets using the provided screws. Tighten screws in a diagonal pattern (e.g., top-left, bottom-right, top-right, bottom-left) to ensure even pressure. Do not overtighten.
- Note: Due to the cooler's size, it may be necessary to temporarily remove the pre-installed fans to access the mounting screws. If so, carefully detach the fan clips, mount the cooler, and then reattach the fans.
Step 5: Connect Fan Power
- Connect the 4-pin PWM fan connector from the V8 GTS cooler to the CPU_FAN header on your motherboard.
- Ensure the connection is secure.

Operating Instructions
Once installed, the Cooler Master V8 GTS operates automatically, controlled by your motherboard's PWM fan headers. The red LEDs will illuminate when the system is powered on.
- Fan Speed Control: The dual 120mm PWM fans automatically adjust their speed based on CPU temperature, as managed by your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings or fan control software. You can fine-tune fan curves in your motherboard's settings for a desired balance between cooling performance and noise level.
- LED Illumination: The integrated red LEDs provide aesthetic lighting. These LEDs are typically powered directly through the fan connection and do not have separate control options unless your motherboard or case offers specific RGB/LED headers that the cooler is connected to (which is not standard for this model).
- Monitoring: Use system monitoring software (e.g., HWMonitor, CPU-Z, or your motherboard's utility) to observe CPU temperatures and fan speeds to ensure optimal performance.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal cooling performance and extends the lifespan of your V8 GTS cooler.
- Dust Removal: Periodically (every 3-6 months, depending on environment) power off your system and use compressed air to blow dust out of the heatsink fins and fan blades. Hold the fan blades gently to prevent them from spinning rapidly during cleaning, which can damage the bearings.
- Fan Inspection: Check the fans for any signs of wear, unusual noise, or reduced rotational speed. The fans feature Cooler Master's 4th generation Polyoxymethylene (POM) Bearing for increased longevity (up to 160,000 hours) and are dustproof.
- Thermal Paste Reapplication: If you remove the cooler for any reason, it is recommended to clean off the old thermal paste from both the CPU and the cooler's base and apply fresh thermal paste before reinstallation.
