Claber Idris Spike Automatic Irrigation 8052 User Manual

Model: Idris Spike 8052

1. Introduction

The Claber Idris Spike is designed to provide automatic, hassle-free watering for potted plants. This system ensures a continuous water supply for up to 20 days, making it ideal for maintaining plant hydration when you are away. It is easy to install and suitable for various home and office plant watering needs.

2. Safety Information

  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Always follow installation instructions carefully to prevent accidents.
  • Do not connect to a water source without proper precautions to avoid leaks or water damage.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all components are present:

  • 1 x Claber Idris Spike unit
  • 1 x 10cl dripper (e.g., orange)
  • 1 x 15cl dripper (e.g., blue)

4. Setup

  1. Choose the Dripper: Select either the 10cl dripper or the 15cl dripper based on your plant's watering needs and the desired duration. The 10cl dripper provides 10 centiliters of water per day, and the 15cl dripper provides 15 centiliters per day.
  2. Attach Water Bottle: Fill a standard plastic drinks bottle with water. Screw the bottle onto the BSP thread connection at the top of the Idris Spike unit. Ensure a secure fit to prevent leaks.
  3. Create Air Hole (Recommended): To ensure consistent water flow and prevent vacuum lock, it is recommended to make a small hole in the base of the inverted water bottle (which will be at the top once installed). This allows air to enter as water is dispensed.
  4. Insert Spike into Soil: Carefully insert the spike end of the unit into the soil next to the plant you wish to water. Ensure the spike is firmly anchored in the soil to prevent tipping. When inserting, gently move the spike to ensure the dripper holes do not become completely blocked by compacted soil.
  5. Dripper Adjustment (Important): The colored threaded drippers should not be screwed in completely flush with the main unit. Leave approximately one and a half turns of threading visible. Screwing them in too tightly can restrict water flow.

5. Operation

Once set up, the Claber Idris Spike will automatically provide a continuous supply of water to your plant. The chosen dripper will regulate the daily water output. Monitor the water level in the bottle periodically to determine when a refill is needed. The system is designed to provide watering for up to 20 days, depending on bottle size and dripper selection.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the drippers and the spike tip to prevent mineral buildup or soil blockages that could impede water flow. Ensure all components are dry and clean before reassembly to prevent air bubbles that could block water.
  • Storage: When not in use, clean the unit thoroughly and store it in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Water Flow:
    • Check if the chosen dripper is screwed in too tightly. Loosen it slightly (ensure about 1.5 turns of thread are visible).
    • Ensure there is an air hole in the inverted water bottle to allow air to enter as water exits.
    • Inspect the dripper and spike tip for any blockages from soil or debris. Clean if necessary.
    • Verify that the bottle is securely attached and not leaking from the connection point.
  • Spike Not Stable:
    • Ensure the spike is inserted deeply enough into the soil and that the soil is firm around it.
    • For larger bottles, ensure the pot is stable and the soil can support the weight.
