3. Setup and Installation
3.1 Safety Precautions
- Ensure the power supply is disconnected from the AC mains before any installation or wiring.
- Installation should be performed by qualified personnel only.
- Verify that the input voltage range matches the power supply's specifications (180-264VAC).
- Proper grounding is essential to prevent electric shock.
- Do not operate the unit in environments exceeding its specified temperature and humidity limits.
3.2 Mounting
The RSP-3000-48 is designed for panel mounting. Ensure adequate ventilation space around the unit to allow for proper airflow and heat dissipation. Mount the unit on a metal plate of sufficient thickness (e.g., 360mm x 360mm x 1mm) to meet EMC directives and ensure proper thermal management.
3.3 Wiring Connections
- AC Input: Connect the AC mains (Line, Neutral, Ground) to the designated input terminals. Use appropriate gauge wiring for the current rating.
- DC Output: Connect the load to the DC output terminals (+V, -V). Observe correct polarity.
- Remote Sense (Optional): If remote sense is used, connect the +S and -S terminals to the load's positive and negative terminals, respectively, to compensate for voltage drop across the output cables.
- Remote ON/OFF Control (Optional): Connect external control signals to the designated terminals for remote power management. Refer to the function manual for detailed wiring.
- Auxiliary Output (Optional): The 12V/0.1A auxiliary output can be used for remote control circuits.
- Current Sharing (Optional): For parallel operation, connect the current sharing terminals of multiple units as per the function manual.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Initial Power-Up
After completing all wiring connections and verifying safety precautions, apply AC power to the unit. The built-in fan will activate, and the output voltage should stabilize at the factory-set or previously adjusted level.
4.2 Output Voltage Adjustment
The output voltage can be trimmed between 20-110% of the rated output voltage (41-56V for 48V model) using an external control signal. Refer to the detailed function manual for specific instructions on how to implement this feature. Incorrect use of the Output Voltage TRIM function can damage internal components.
4.3 Monitoring
The unit provides an alarm signal output for monitoring operational status. Consult the function manual for details on interpreting these signals.
5. Maintenance
The Mean Well RSP-3000-48 power supply is designed for reliable operation with minimal maintenance. However, periodic checks are recommended:
- Cleaning: Ensure the ventilation openings and fan blades are free from dust and debris to maintain optimal cooling performance. Disconnect power before cleaning.
- Fan Inspection: Periodically check the cooling fan for proper operation. A malfunctioning fan can lead to overheating and reduced lifespan.
- Connection Integrity: Verify that all wiring connections are secure and free from corrosion.
- Environmental Conditions: Ensure the operating environment remains within the specified temperature and humidity ranges.
6. Troubleshooting
If the power supply is not functioning correctly, perform the following basic checks:
- No Output Voltage:
- Check if AC input power is present and correctly connected.
- Verify that the remote ON/OFF control is not activated (if used).
- Check for short circuits or overloads on the output. The unit has overload protection that may shut down the output.
- Overheating:
- Ensure adequate ventilation and that the cooling fan is operating.
- Check for excessive ambient temperature.
- Reduce the load if it exceeds the rated power.
- Output Voltage Fluctuation:
- Verify that the load is stable and not causing transient demands.
- Check remote sense connections if used.
- Alarm Signal Active:
- Consult the function manual to identify the specific alarm condition (e.g., fan alarm, over temperature).
If the problem persists after performing these checks, contact Mean Well technical support or your local distributor for assistance.

- Tolerance includes set up tolerance, line regulation and load regulation.
- The power supply is considered a component which will be installed into a final equipment. All EMC tests have been executed by mounting the unit on a 360mm*360mm metal plate with 1mm of thickness. The final equipment must be re-confirmed to meet EMC directives. For guidance on how to perform these EMC tests, please refer to "EMI testing of component power supplies" (as available on www.meanwell.com).
- The PWM signal cannot be used to control the output voltage.
- If the "Output Voltage TRIM" function is not used, P/PFC and P/PWM of CN1 or CN2 must be shorted. If the "Output Voltage TRIM" function is used, P/PFC and P/PWM of CN1 or CN2 must be disconnected. Failure to follow these instructions may damage internal electrical components.
