2. Safety Information

3. Setup: Loading the Lancet Drum

The Accu-Chek Multiclix lancing device uses a drum containing six sterile lancets. Follow these steps to load a new drum:

  1. Prepare the Lancing Device: Remove the cap from your Accu-Chek Multiclix lancing device.
  2. Insert the Lancet Drum: Insert a new lancet drum, white end first, into the drum holder of the lancing device. Push it in firmly until it clicks into place.
  3. Replace the Cap: Place the cap back onto the lancing device. Ensure it is securely fastened.
  4. Set Puncture Depth: Rotate the dial on the cap to select your desired puncture depth. Start with a lower setting (e.g., 2) and adjust as needed to obtain a sufficient blood sample.

Note: The lancet drum is designed so that you do not see or touch the individual lancets, ensuring safety and hygiene.

4. Operating: Performing a Blood Sample Collection

Once the lancet drum is loaded and the depth is set, you are ready to collect a blood sample:

  1. Prime the Device: Push the priming button on the end of the lancing device until it clicks. The release button will now be yellow, indicating it is ready to use.
  2. Position the Device: Place the lancing device firmly against the side of your fingertip.
  3. Activate the Lancet: Press the yellow release button to activate the lancet and prick your finger.
  4. Obtain Blood Sample: Gently squeeze your finger to form a drop of blood. Apply the blood drop to your test strip as instructed by your blood glucose meter's manual.
  5. Advance to Next Lancet: To use the next sterile lancet, rotate the priming button clockwise until it clicks, then rotate it back counter-clockwise until it clicks again. The number in the window will advance, indicating the next lancet is ready.

Important: Do not reuse a lancet. Always advance to a new lancet for each test.

5. Maintenance and Disposal

5.1. Cleaning the Lancing Device

Clean the exterior of your Accu-Chek Multiclix lancing device regularly with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not immerse the device in water. Ensure it is completely dry before storage or next use.

5.2. Disposing of Used Lancet Drums

After all six lancets in a drum have been used, the drum must be safely disposed of. The lancing device will indicate when the drum is empty (usually by showing a red line or a specific symbol in the window).

  1. Remove the Cap: Take off the cap of the lancing device.
  2. Eject the Drum: Push the drum ejector button (if available on your model) or simply pull the used drum out of the device.
  3. Dispose Safely: Place the used lancet drum immediately into an approved sharps container. Do not dispose of used drums in household trash.

For more information on sharps disposal, contact your local waste management facility or healthcare provider.
