This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting your Xbox 360 S 4GB System. Please read this guide thoroughly before using your console to ensure proper functionality and safety.
The Xbox 360 S 4GB System offers a comprehensive entertainment experience with built-in Wi-Fi, a sleek design, and compatibility with a wide range of games and media. It is also ready for the controller-free experience of Kinect (sold separately).
Setup
1. Unboxing and Component Identification
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure you have the following items:
- Xbox 360 S 4GB Console
- Xbox 360 Wireless Controller
- Power Supply Unit and Power Cord
- Composite AV Cable (or HDMI cable, if included)

2. Connecting to Power
- Connect the power cord to the power supply unit.
- Connect the power supply unit cable to the power input port on the back of the Xbox 360 console.
- Plug the power cord into a wall outlet.
3. Connecting to Your Television
You have two primary options for connecting your Xbox 360 S to a television:
HDMI Connection (Recommended for HD)
- Insert one end of an HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the back of your Xbox 360 console.
- Insert the other end of the HDMI cable into an available HDMI input on your television.
- Select the corresponding HDMI input on your television.
Composite AV Connection (Standard Definition)
- Connect the Xbox 360 AV cable to the AV port on the back of your console.
- Match the colored connectors (yellow for video, red and white for audio) on the AV cable to the corresponding input ports on your television.
- Select the corresponding AV input on your television.
4. Connecting the Wireless Controller
- Insert two AA batteries into the wireless controller (refer to the Maintenance section for details).
- Press and hold the Guide button (Xbox logo) on the controller until it turns on.
- Press the connect button on the front of the Xbox 360 console (small circular button near the USB ports).
- Within 20 seconds, press the connect button on the front of the wireless controller (small button between the shoulder buttons).
- The lights around the console's power button and on the controller will flash and then become solid, indicating a successful connection.

5. Initial System Setup
Upon first power-on, the console will guide you through initial setup steps, including language selection, time zone, and creating or recovering an Xbox Live profile. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Operating the Console
1. Powering On/Off
- To Power On: Press the power button on the front of the console or the Guide button on a connected controller.
- To Power Off: Press the power button on the console or hold the Guide button on the controller and select 'Turn Off Console'.

2. Navigating the Dashboard
The Xbox 360 Dashboard is the main interface for accessing games, apps, settings, and Xbox Live. Use the wireless controller's D-pad or left analog stick to navigate through menus and the A button to select items.
3. Inserting and Ejecting Discs
- To Insert: Gently push a game or movie disc into the disc drive slot on the front of the console with the label facing up. The console will automatically pull the disc in.
- To Eject: Press the eject button located next to the disc drive slot.
4. Connecting to Xbox Live (Built-in Wi-Fi)
The Xbox 360 S features built-in Wi-Fi for easy connection to Xbox Live. From the Dashboard, navigate to 'Settings' > 'System Settings' > 'Network Settings'. Select your wireless network and enter the password if prompted. Xbox Live allows for online multiplayer, digital game purchases, and streaming media.
5. Using the Wireless Controller
The Xbox 360 Wireless Controller provides intuitive control for games and dashboard navigation. It features two analog sticks, a D-pad, four face buttons (A, B, X, Y), two shoulder buttons (LB, RB), two triggers (LT, RT), a Guide button, Start, and Back buttons.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning the Console
To ensure optimal performance and longevity, keep your Xbox 360 S console clean:
- Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to wipe down the exterior of the console.
- Periodically use a can of compressed air to clear dust from the ventilation grilles. Ensure the console is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
- Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
2. Hard Drive Management
The Xbox 360 S 4GB system includes 4GB of internal flash memory. For additional storage, an official Xbox 360 Hard Drive can be installed. To install or remove a hard drive:

- Locate the hard drive bay cover on the side of the console.
- Remove the cover by sliding it off.

3. Controller Battery Replacement
The Xbox 360 Wireless Controller uses two AA batteries. To replace them:
- Press the tab on the top of the battery pack and pull down to remove it from the controller.
- Remove the old AA batteries.
