4. Setup

4.1 Charging the Battery

Before first use, fully charge the 40V 4.0Ah Lithium-Ion battery. Connect the charger to a standard power outlet and insert the battery. The charger's indicator lights will show the charging status. A full charge typically takes approximately 2 hours.

4.2 Installing the Battery

Once charged, slide the battery pack into the battery compartment on the chainsaw until it clicks securely into place. Ensure it is fully seated to prevent accidental dislodgement during operation.

4.3 Adding Chain Oil

The chainsaw features an automatic oiler. Before each use, fill the oil reservoir with high-quality bar and chain oil. The transparent oil fill window allows you to monitor the oil level. Do not operate the chainsaw without sufficient chain oil, as this can cause damage to the bar and chain.

4.4 Adjusting Chain Tension

The chainsaw is equipped with tool-less chain tensioning for convenience. To adjust, loosen the side knob, then turn the tensioning ring to achieve the correct chain tension. The chain should be snug against the guide bar but still able to be pulled freely by hand. Retighten the side knob securely after adjustment.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Starting the Chainsaw

The Greenworks 40V chainsaw features an easy push-button start. Ensure the battery is installed and the chain brake is disengaged. Press the safety lock-out button and then squeeze the trigger to start the chainsaw. There is no need for priming, choking, or pull-starting.

5.2 Cutting Techniques

Always maintain a firm grip with both hands and keep the chainsaw close to your body for better control. When cutting, allow the saw to do the work; do not force it. For felling trees, plan your escape route and ensure the area is clear. For limbing, work from the bottom up, removing smaller branches first. Be cautious of branches under tension that may spring back.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your chainsaw.

6.1 Cleaning

After each use, clean the chainsaw thoroughly. Remove sawdust, chips, and debris from the guide bar, chain, and motor housing. Use a brush or compressed air. Do not use water directly on electrical components.

6.2 Chain and Bar Care

Regularly check the chain for sharpness and proper tension. A dull chain will not cut efficiently and can increase the risk of kickback. Sharpen or replace the chain as needed. Rotate the guide bar periodically to ensure even wear.

6.3 Oiler System Check

Ensure the automatic oiler is functioning correctly by observing oil flow from the chain during operation. Keep the oil reservoir filled with appropriate bar and chain oil.

6.4 Battery Storage

Store the battery in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. For long-term storage, ensure the battery is partially charged (around 50%) to maintain its health. The battery is designed to hold its charge for over 12 months.
