1. Introduction
The NZXT Sentry Mix 2 is a 6-channel fan controller designed to provide precise control over your computer's cooling system. Each channel delivers up to 30 watts of power, allowing for comprehensive management of multiple fans. This device features a matte-black finish with customizable LED lighting, integrating seamlessly into various PC builds. This manual provides instructions for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your Sentry Mix 2 fan controller.
2. Safety Information
- Ensure your computer is powered off and unplugged from the wall outlet before installation or maintenance.
- Handle electronic components with care to avoid electrostatic discharge (ESD). Consider using an anti-static wrist strap.
- Do not exceed the maximum power output of 30 watts per channel. Overloading a channel can damage the controller and connected components.
- Connect only standard PC cooling fans or compatible water cooling pumps. Do not connect high-power industrial fans (e.g., Delta fans) as they can damage the unit.
- Keep the device away from liquids and excessive moisture.
- Do not attempt to open or modify the controller. This will void the warranty and may cause damage.
3. Package Contents
Verify that all components are present in the package:
- NZXT Sentry Mix 2 Fan Controller
- Mounting Screws
- Fan Extension Cables (if included)
- Power Cables (2x Molex connectors)
4. Setup and Installation
4.1. Physical Installation
- Prepare your PC: Power off your computer and unplug it from the wall. Open your PC case to access the internal components.
- Locate a 5.25-inch bay: The Sentry Mix 2 is designed to fit into a standard 5.25-inch drive bay. Remove the front panel cover from an available bay.
- Insert the controller: Carefully slide the Sentry Mix 2 into the chosen 5.25-inch bay from the front of the case until the mounting holes align.
- Secure the controller: Use the provided screws to secure the fan controller to the drive bay on both sides.

4.2. Connecting Fans
- Identify fan connectors: The Sentry Mix 2 has six 3-pin fan headers on its rear. Each header corresponds to a slider on the front panel.
- Connect your fans: Plug your PC case fans or CPU cooler fans (if compatible) into the desired fan headers on the back of the Sentry Mix 2. Ensure the connectors are properly seated.
- Cable management: Route the fan cables neatly to avoid obstructing airflow or interfering with other components.

4.3. Power Connection
- Locate Molex connectors: The Sentry Mix 2 requires power from your PC's power supply unit (PSU) via two Molex connectors.
- Connect power: Plug two available Molex power connectors from your PSU into the corresponding Molex inputs on the back of the Sentry Mix 2. Ensure a firm connection.
- Close case: Once all connections are made and verified, close your PC case and reconnect the power cable to the wall outlet.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Fan Speed Control
The Sentry Mix 2 features six individual sliders on the front panel, each controlling one fan channel. Moving a slider up increases the fan speed and airflow, while moving it down decreases the fan speed, resulting in quieter operation.
- Individual Control: Adjust each slider independently to fine-tune the speed of connected fans.
- Initial Spin-up: Upon PC startup, fans connected to the Sentry Mix 2 will briefly spin at full speed for approximately 10 seconds to ensure proper initiation, then revert to their set slider speed. This is normal operation.

5.2. LED Lighting Control
The Sentry Mix 2 includes integrated color LED lighting. A small button located on the left side of the front panel allows you to cycle through five different LED colors (red, green, blue, orange, white) or turn the lighting off completely.
- Color Selection: Press the LED button repeatedly to change the display color.
- Turn Off LEDs: Continue pressing the button until the LEDs turn off, if desired.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the front panel of the controller with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Dust Removal: If dust accumulates inside the PC case, carefully remove the controller and use compressed air to clean any dust from the internal components and connectors. Ensure the PC is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
- Cable Check: Occasionally check all connected cables (fan and power) to ensure they are securely seated and not damaged.
7. Troubleshooting
7.1. Fans Not Spinning
- Check Power: Ensure both Molex power connectors from the PSU are securely connected to the Sentry Mix 2.
- Check Fan Connections: Verify that the fan cables are correctly and firmly plugged into the controller's fan headers.
- Slider Position: Confirm that the corresponding slider for the non-spinning fan is not set to its lowest position. Move it up to increase power.
- Fan Functionality: Test the fan by connecting it directly to a motherboard fan header to rule out a faulty fan.
7.2. LEDs Not Lighting Up or Changing Color
- Check Power: Ensure the controller is receiving power via the Molex connectors.
- Press Button: Press the LED control button on the front panel to cycle through colors or turn the LEDs on.
7.3. Intermittent Fan Operation
- Secure Connections: Re-check all fan and power connections for looseness.
- Overload: Ensure the total wattage of fans connected to a single channel does not exceed 30 watts.
