4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Tripod Mode

Ensure all leg sections are securely tightened and the leg angles are set for maximum stability. For added stability, especially in windy conditions or with heavy equipment, hang your camera bag or a weight from the weight hook located at the bottom of the center column.

4.2 Monopod Conversion

One of the tripod legs can be detached and combined with the center column to form a monopod.

  1. Identify the leg with the foam grip and the SIRUI logo. This is the detachable leg.
  2. Unscrew this leg from the tripod chassis.
  3. Unscrew the center column from the tripod chassis.
  4. Attach the detached leg to the bottom of the center column.
  5. Extend the monopod to the desired height using the twist locks on the leg sections.
  6. Attach the hand strap to the monopod for secure handling.

4.3 Center Column Adjustment

The center column can be extended or retracted by loosening and tightening the collar lock. For low-angle photography, the center column is divisible. Unscrew the longer section to use only the shorter 9.5cm piece, allowing the tripod to achieve a minimum height of 14cm.

4.4 Leg Angle Adjustment

The leg angle lock mechanism allows for three distinct leg angles: 21°, 51°, and 83°. To adjust, pull out the leg angle lock tab at the top of each leg, set the leg to the desired angle, and ensure the tab clicks back into place.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your SIRUI N-1004X tripod.

  • Cleaning: After use, especially in sandy, dusty, or wet environments, wipe down all parts of the tripod with a clean, damp cloth. Ensure all leg sections and twist locks are free of debris.
  • Twist Locks: If the twist locks become stiff or gritty, disassemble the leg sections (refer to the detailed diagram in the included user manual for guidance) and clean them thoroughly. Apply a small amount of silicone grease if necessary, but avoid oil-based lubricants.
  • Storage: Store the tripod in its carrying bag in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.
  • Allen Key: Use the provided Allen key to periodically check and tighten any screws on the leg hinges or other adjustable parts to maintain stability.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your SIRUI N-1004X, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Leg sections not extending/retracting smoothly: This is often due to dirt or sand inside the twist locks. Follow the cleaning instructions in the Maintenance section. Ensure you are twisting the locks only 1/4 turn to loosen/tighten.
  • Tripod feels unstable:
    • Ensure all leg sections are fully extended and securely tightened.
    • Verify that the leg angle locks are fully engaged at one of the three click stops.
    • Check that the center column is securely locked.
    • For very heavy loads or windy conditions, utilize the weight hook on the center column.
  • Monopod leg detaches unexpectedly: Ensure the leg is fully screwed into the center column when converting to monopod mode. The connection should be firm.
  • Center column wobbles: Ensure the center column locking collar is fully tightened. If the column is divisible, ensure both parts are securely screwed together before locking.
