4. Product Overview

The Allnet ALL95100 is a Gigabit CAT 6 surge arrester designed to protect network devices such as switches, routers, firewalls, laptops, PCs, servers, TVs, and media devices from electrical surges and lightning strikes. It features two RJ-45 connectors for inline installation and a grounding wire for discharge.

4.1 Key Features

The device features two RJ-45 connectors for network cable input and output, and a green/yellow grounding wire with a lug for connection to an earth ground.

5. Setup and Installation

The Allnet ALL95100 is designed for simple plug-and-play installation. Proper grounding is crucial for its effectiveness.

5.1 Installation Steps

  1. Identify Network Cable: Locate the Ethernet cable connecting the device you wish to protect (e.g., router, switch, PC) to the network.
  2. Disconnect Cable: Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the device.
  3. Connect Surge Arrester:
    • Connect one end of the existing Ethernet cable to one RJ-45 port of the ALL95100.
    • Use a new, short Ethernet patch cable (Cat 6, 7, or 8 recommended for optimal performance) to connect the other RJ-45 port of the ALL95100 to the network port of your device.
  4. Grounding: Connect the green/yellow grounding wire of the ALL95100 to a reliable earth ground. This is a critical step for surge protection. The grounding point should be as close as possible to the arrester.
  5. Verify Connections: Ensure all network cables are securely connected and the grounding wire is firmly attached.

6. Operating Instructions

Once properly installed and grounded, the Allnet ALL95100 operates passively. It continuously monitors the network line for voltage surges and diverts excess energy to the earth ground, protecting connected equipment. No user interaction is required during operation.

The device is designed to maintain full Gigabit Ethernet speeds (10/100/1000 Mbit/s) without degradation, ensuring network performance is unaffected.

7. Maintenance

The Allnet ALL95100 is a low-maintenance device. Regular checks are recommended to ensure optimal performance:

In the event of a significant surge or lightning strike, the surge arrester may sacrifice itself to protect your equipment. If network connectivity issues arise after such an event, inspect the ALL95100 for damage and consider replacing it.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No network connectivity after installation.Loose cable connections, faulty Ethernet cable, or improper installation.
  • Check all RJ-45 connections for secure fit.
  • Test Ethernet cables for functionality.
  • Ensure the ALL95100 is installed correctly in the network path.
  • Temporarily bypass the ALL95100 to see if connectivity is restored (if so, the unit may be faulty or damaged).
Slow network speeds.Poor quality Ethernet cables, damaged ALL95100, or network congestion.
  • Use high-quality shielded Ethernet cables (Cat 6, 7, or 8 recommended).
  • Ensure the ALL95100 is not damaged.
  • Check other network components for issues.
Grounding wire is loose or disconnected.Improper installation or physical disturbance.Securely re-attach the grounding wire to a reliable earth ground.
