3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the side of the flash unit (refer to Figure 3).
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert four (4) AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Note: Always use fresh, high-quality AA batteries for optimal performance and recycle used batteries responsibly.

3.2 Mounting on Camera

  1. Ensure both the camera and the flash unit are powered off.
  2. Slide the flash's hot shoe mount into your camera's hot shoe slot (refer to Figure 4).
  3. Tighten the locking ring on the flash unit to secure it firmly to the camera.

3.3 Wireless Trigger Setup (Optional)

The included wireless trigger allows for off-camera flash operation. Simply mount the trigger onto your camera's hot shoe and place the flash unit in a desired location. Ensure the flash is set to an optical slave mode (S1 or S2) for the trigger to function.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Powering On/Off

To power on the flash, slide the "ON/OFF" switch to the "ON" position. To power off, slide it to the "OFF" position.

4.2 Flash Modes

Press the "MODE" button to cycle through the available flash modes:

  • M (Manual Mode): In this mode, you manually set the flash output power. This provides full control over the flash intensity.
  • S1 (Optical Slave Mode 1): The flash will fire in response to the first flash from a master flash. This is ideal for cameras that do not pre-flash.
  • S2 (Optical Slave Mode 2): The flash will ignore the first pre-flash from a master flash and fire on the second flash. This is suitable for cameras that use a pre-flash for red-eye reduction or TTL metering.

4.3 Adjusting Flash Output

In Manual (M) mode, use the "+" and "-" buttons to adjust the flash output power. The power can be set from 1/128 (lowest) to full power (1/1). The current power level is indicated on the control panel.

4.4 Test Flash

Press the "TEST" button to fire a test flash. This allows you to check the flash output and coverage before taking a photo.

4.5 Using the Reflection Board and Diffuser

The flash head includes a pull-out reflection board and a wide-angle diffuser. Pull out the reflection board to create a catchlight in your subject's eyes. Pull out the wide-angle diffuser to soften the light and achieve broader coverage, especially useful for wide-angle lenses.

4.6 Flash Sync Speed

The GODOX TT520 II supports a maximum flash sync speed of 1/250s. Ensure your camera's shutter speed is set to 1/250s or slower when using the flash to avoid partial exposures.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the flash unit. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth. Do not use strong detergents or solvents.
  • Battery Care: Remove batteries if the flash will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage and damage.
  • Storage: Store the flash in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Handling: Avoid dropping the flash or subjecting it to strong impacts, as this can damage internal components.
