1. Introduction
The White's Coinmaster Metal Detector is designed for hobbyists and enthusiasts seeking coins, jewelry, and other metallic objects. This manual provides essential information for the proper assembly, operation, and maintenance of your device, ensuring optimal performance and longevity. The Coinmaster features user-friendly controls, including Target ID, Depth Reading, and a 5-segment discrimination filter, making it an excellent choice for beginners.
2. Safety Information
- Always be aware of your surroundings when operating the metal detector.
- Avoid detecting in areas with known underground utilities (e.g., electrical cables, gas lines) to prevent injury or damage.
- Do not operate the detector during electrical storms.
- Always obtain permission before detecting on private property.
- Wear appropriate footwear and gloves when digging.
- Keep batteries out of reach of children and dispose of them properly.
3. Package Contents
Verify that all items are present in your package:
- White's Coinmaster Control Box
- Adjustable Shaft Assembly
- 9-inch Waterproof Concentric Search Coil
- Arm Cuff
- Two (2) 9-volt Batteries
- User Manual (this document)
4. Assembly
Follow these steps to assemble your White's Coinmaster Metal Detector:
- Attach the search coil to the lower stem using the provided bolt and wing nut. Ensure it is secure but not overtightened.
- Insert the lower stem into the middle stem, adjusting the length to a comfortable operating position. Secure with the locking collar.
- Slide the control box onto the upper stem. Ensure the arm cuff is positioned comfortably for your forearm.
- Wrap the search coil cable securely around the stem, leaving enough slack for coil movement, and plug the connector into the control box. Tighten the collar on the connector.

5. Setup
5.1 Battery Installation
The Coinmaster requires two 9-volt batteries for operation. To install:
- Locate the battery compartment on the underside of the control box.
- Open the battery compartment cover.
- Insert two 9-volt batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
5.2 Power On/Off
Press the ON/OFF button located on the control panel to power the detector on or off.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Controls Overview

Figure 6.1: White's Coinmaster Control Panel.
- ON/OFF: Powers the unit on or off.
- DISC (Discrimination): Adjusts the discrimination level to filter out unwanted metals.
- SENS (Sensitivity): Adjusts the detector's sensitivity to ground conditions and target depth.
- P/P PINPOINT: Activates pinpoint mode for precise target location.
6.2 Target Identification (Target ID)
The Coinmaster features an 8-segment display that provides visual identification of detected targets. When a target is detected, an icon corresponding to the probable metal type (e.g., nail, foil, 5¢, 1¢, 25¢) will appear on the screen. This helps you decide whether to dig or ignore the target.
6.3 Depth Reading
The LCD screen also displays a depth reading, indicating how deep the detected target is. This feature helps you determine the effort required for recovery and can assist in deciding whether to dig.
6.4 Discrimination (DISC)
The 5-segment discrimination filter allows you to ignore unwanted metallic objects like iron and pull tabs. Use the DISC buttons (up/down arrows) to adjust the discrimination level. Increasing the discrimination level will filter out more conductive metals, while decreasing it will allow more types of metal to be detected.
6.5 Sensitivity (SENS)
Adjust the detector's sensitivity using the SENS buttons (up/down arrows). Higher sensitivity settings can detect deeper targets but may also be more susceptible to ground mineralization and electrical interference. Lower sensitivity settings reduce interference but may decrease detection depth.
6.6 Pinpoint Mode (P/P PINPOINT)
Press the P/P PINPOINT button to activate pinpoint mode. This mode helps you precisely locate the target's position before digging, minimizing the size of the excavation. The detector will emit a continuous tone that increases in pitch and volume as you move the coil directly over the target's center.

7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the control box and shaft with a damp cloth. The search coil is waterproof and can be rinsed with fresh water. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Battery Care: Remove batteries if the detector will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
- Storage: Store the detector in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Cable Inspection: Periodically check the search coil cable for any signs of wear or damage.
8. Troubleshooting
- No Power: Ensure batteries are correctly installed and fully charged. Check the ON/OFF button.
- Erratic Signals/False Alarms: Reduce sensitivity. Check for nearby sources of electromagnetic interference (power lines, other electronics). Ensure the search coil cable is tightly wound around the shaft and securely connected.
- Poor Detection Depth: Increase sensitivity. Ensure the search coil is parallel to the ground. Check battery levels.
- No Target ID: Ensure the detector is not in All-Metal mode (if applicable) and discrimination is not set too high for the target type.
