Setup
1. Battery Installation
The Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop requires batteries for operation. Ensure you have the correct battery types as specified below:
- Keyboard: 2 AAA alkaline batteries (included)
- Keypad: 1 Lithium battery CR2430 (included)
- Mouse: 2 AA alkaline batteries (included)
Locate the battery compartments on the underside of each device, insert the batteries according to the polarity indicators, and close the compartments securely.
2. Connecting the Devices
The Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop connects wirelessly via a proprietary 2.4 GHz USB module. This module is typically found within the battery compartment of one of the devices (often the keyboard or mouse) or packaged separately.
- Insert the USB wireless receiver into an available USB port on your computer.
- The devices should automatically connect. If not, refer to the troubleshooting section or press any key/button on the devices to wake them up.
The keyboard, mouse, and number pad are designed to work seamlessly together once the USB receiver is connected.
Operating Instructions
Keyboard Usage
The split keyset and domed design are intended to promote a natural, relaxed hand and wrist position. Place your hands on the cushioned palm rest, allowing your wrists to remain straight and comfortable while typing.
- Function Keys (F1-F12): These keys may have dual functions. A switch or dedicated function key (Fn) might be present to toggle between standard F-key functionality and multimedia/shortcut functions.
- Separate Number Pad: Use the detached number pad for data entry, calculations, or any tasks requiring numerical input. Its separate design allows you to position it optimally for your workflow, reducing reach.
Mouse Usage
The ergonomic shape of the mouse is designed to fit comfortably in your hand, with a dedicated thumb scoop to maintain correct hand and wrist posture.
- Windows Button: Press the blue Windows button on the side of the mouse for quick, one-touch access to the Windows Start screen.
- Back Button: Located near the Windows button, this button provides faster navigation in web browsers and file explorers.
- 4-Way Scroll Wheel: In addition to vertical scrolling, the scroll wheel can be tilted left or right for horizontal scrolling, which is particularly useful in wide documents or spreadsheets.

Maintenance
Cleaning
To maintain the appearance and functionality of your Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop, regularly clean the surfaces. Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild cleaning solution. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
Battery Replacement
When battery levels are low, the indicator lights on the devices may flash. Replace batteries as needed following the installation steps in the Setup section. Using high-quality alkaline batteries is recommended for optimal performance and longevity.
Troubleshooting
Connection Issues
- No Response: Ensure the USB wireless receiver is securely plugged into a working USB port. Try a different USB port.
- Low Battery: Check and replace batteries in the keyboard, mouse, and number pad if necessary.
- Interference: Move the devices closer to the USB receiver. Avoid placing the receiver near other wireless devices or large metal objects that might cause interference.
- Re-pairing: If connection is lost, you may need to re-pair the devices with the receiver. Consult the official Microsoft support website for specific re-pairing instructions for your model.
Performance Issues
- Lagging Mouse/Keyboard: This could indicate low battery, interference, or a need to update drivers. Ensure your operating system drivers are up to date.
- Mouse Tracking: BlueTrack Technology works on most surfaces but not on clear glass or mirrored surfaces. If experiencing tracking issues, try a different surface or a mouse pad.
