5. Setup and Installation

5.1 Mounting the Amplifier

  1. Choose a secure, dry location with adequate ventilation. Avoid mounting on carpet or in enclosed spaces without airflow.
  2. Mark the mounting holes using the amplifier as a template.
  3. Drill pilot holes and secure the amplifier using the provided mounting screws.

5.2 Wiring Connections

Ensure the vehicle's battery negative terminal is disconnected before proceeding with any wiring.

  1. Power (DC12V): Connect a suitable gauge power wire (e.g., 8-gauge) from the vehicle's positive battery terminal to the amplifier's DC12V terminal. Install an in-line fuse holder (not supplied) within 18 inches of the battery.
  2. Ground (GND): Connect a wire of the same gauge as the power wire from the amplifier's GND terminal to a clean, unpainted metal surface on the vehicle's chassis. Ensure a solid, low-resistance connection.
  3. Remote Turn-On (REM IN): Connect a remote turn-on wire from your head unit's remote output to the amplifier's REM IN terminal. If using high-level inputs, the amplifier may feature auto turn-on, eliminating the need for a separate remote wire.
  4. Signal Input:
    • Low-Level (RCA): Connect RCA cables from your head unit's RCA outputs to the amplifier's INPUT (RCA) terminals.
    • High-Level: If your head unit lacks RCA outputs, connect the speaker outputs from your head unit to the amplifier's HI-INPUT terminal using the provided connector.
  5. Speaker Connections (CH): Connect your speakers to the amplifier's CH terminals. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -). For bridged mono operation, refer to the diagram on the amplifier or consult a professional. The amplifier supports 2-channel stereo or 1-channel bridged operation.
  6. Once all connections are made, reconnect the vehicle's battery negative terminal.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Initial Power-Up

After installation, turn on your head unit. The amplifier's POWER indicator (green LED) should illuminate. If the PROTECTION indicator (red LED) illuminates, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

6.2 Adjusting Settings

  1. Gain Adjustment: Start with the GAIN control at its minimum setting. Play a familiar piece of music at a moderate volume on your head unit. Slowly increase the GAIN control until you hear distortion, then back it off slightly. This matches the amplifier's input sensitivity to your head unit's output.
  2. Crossover (X-OVER / HI-LO-PASS):
    • Set the X-OVER switch to LPF (Low-Pass Filter) if driving subwoofers.
    • Adjust the HI-LO-PASS knob to select the desired low-pass frequency (e.g., 80-120 Hz for subwoofers).
    • Set the X-OVER switch to FULL if driving full-range speakers and using the head unit's crossover.
  3. Bass Boost: Adjust the BASS BOOST knob to enhance low frequencies. Use sparingly to avoid distortion and speaker damage.
  4. Subsonic Filter: The PN2.350D features a built-in subsonic filter (12 dB at 10-50 Hz) to protect subwoofers from playing frequencies below their usable range.
  5. Phase Switch: The 180° phase switch can be used to optimize the sound staging and bass response, especially when integrating with other speakers or subwoofers. Experiment with both settings to find the best sound.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your amplifier:

  • Keep the amplifier clean and free of dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Periodically check all wiring connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Ensure that the amplifier's ventilation fins are not obstructed to allow for proper heat dissipation.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on the amplifier.

8. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your amplifier, consult the following troubleshooting guide:

8.1 No Power (POWER LED Off)

  • Check the in-line fuse near the battery and the fuses on the amplifier. Replace if blown.
  • Verify that the +12V (DC12V) power wire is securely connected to the battery and the amplifier.
  • Ensure the ground (GND) wire has a solid connection to the vehicle chassis.
  • Check the remote turn-on (REM IN) wire connection to the head unit and amplifier.

8.2 No Sound

  • Verify that the head unit is on and playing audio.
  • Check RCA or high-level input connections for proper seating and continuity.
  • Ensure speaker wires are correctly connected to the amplifier and speakers, with correct polarity.
  • Adjust the GAIN control on the amplifier.
  • Check the X-OVER switch and HI-LO-PASS settings.

8.3 Distortion

  • Reduce the GAIN control on the amplifier.
  • Check speaker impedance to ensure it is within the amplifier's supported range (2 ohms stereo, 4 ohms bridged).
  • Reduce the BASS BOOST setting.
  • Ensure proper crossover settings to prevent speakers from playing frequencies they cannot reproduce cleanly.

8.4 Amplifier Goes into Protection Mode (PROTECTION LED On)

  • Overheating: Allow the amplifier to cool down. Ensure adequate ventilation around the amplifier.
  • Short Circuit: Check all speaker wires for shorts to ground or to each other. Verify speaker impedance.
  • Low Voltage: Check the vehicle's battery and charging system. Ensure power and ground wires are of sufficient gauge.
