4. Maintenance Procedures

The following procedures outline the steps for replacing the components included in your LG266 kit. Always consult your tractor's operator manual for specific instructions and torque specifications.

4.1. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement

  1. Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool.
  2. Place a suitable drain pan under the engine oil drain plug.
  3. Remove the oil drain plug and allow all old oil to drain completely.
  4. Once drained, reinstall the oil drain plug and tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque.
  5. Locate the old oil filter (AM125424). Place the drain pan underneath it.
  6. Unscrew the old oil filter counter-clockwise and remove it. Be prepared for residual oil to spill.
  7. Apply a thin film of new engine oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter.
  8. Screw on the new oil filter (AM125424) clockwise until the gasket makes contact with the engine block. Then, tighten an additional 1/2 to 3/4 turn by hand. Do not overtighten.
  9. Remove the engine oil fill cap.
  10. Pour the two quarts of new John Deere TY22029 SAE 10W-30 engine oil into the engine.
  11. Reinstall the oil fill cap.
  12. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the oil. Check for leaks around the filter and drain plug.
  13. Turn off the engine, wait a few minutes for the oil to settle, and check the oil level with the dipstick. Add more oil if necessary to reach the full mark.

4.2. Air Filter Replacement

  1. Ensure the engine is off and cool.
  2. Locate the air filter housing, typically on the side or top of the engine.
  3. Open the air filter housing cover. This may involve clips, screws, or wing nuts.
  4. Carefully remove the old air filter element. Note its orientation.
  5. Clean any debris from inside the air filter housing.
  6. Install the new MIU13038 air filter element, ensuring it is seated correctly.
  7. Close and secure the air filter housing cover.

4.3. Fuel Filter Replacement

  1. Ensure the engine is off and cool.
  2. Locate the fuel filter (AM116304) in the fuel line, usually between the fuel tank and the carburetor.
  3. Use clamps or pliers to pinch the fuel lines on both sides of the filter to minimize fuel leakage.
  4. Have a rag or small container ready to catch any spilled fuel.
  5. Carefully remove the clamps securing the fuel lines to the old filter.
  6. Remove the old fuel filter. Note the direction of the fuel flow arrow on the filter.
  7. Install the new AM116304 fuel filter, ensuring the arrow on the filter points in the direction of fuel flow towards the engine.
  8. Reattach the fuel lines and secure them with clamps.
  9. Remove the pinch clamps from the fuel lines.
  10. Check for any fuel leaks.

4.4. Spark Plug Replacement

  1. Ensure the engine is off and cool. Disconnect the spark plug wire.
  2. Clean any debris from around the base of the spark plug to prevent it from falling into the cylinder when removed.
  3. Using a spark plug wrench, carefully unscrew the old spark plug counter-clockwise and remove it.
  4. Inspect the new M78543 (RC12YC) spark plug. It should be pre-gapped, but you can verify the gap with a feeler gauge if desired (refer to your tractor manual for the correct gap).
  5. Thread the new spark plug into the cylinder head by hand to prevent cross-threading.
  6. Once finger-tight, use the spark plug wrench to tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque. Do not overtighten.
  7. Reconnect the spark plug wire firmly.
