Before You Begin

Motherboard Installation

  1. Prepare the Case: Install the I/O shield into your computer case.
  2. Install the Motherboard: Carefully place the motherboard into the case, aligning the screw holes. Secure it with screws.
  3. Install CPU: Open the CPU socket lever, align the CPU with the socket (triangle/arrow indicator), gently place it, and close the lever.
  4. Install CPU Cooler: Follow the cooler manufacturer's instructions to install the CPU cooler.
  5. Install Memory (RAM): Open the DIMM slot clips, align the memory module notch with the slot key, and press down firmly until the clips lock.
  6. Install Graphics Card (Optional): Insert your PCIe graphics card into the primary PCIe x16 slot and secure it.
  7. Connect Power Cables: Connect the 24-pin ATX power connector and the 8-pin CPU power connector from your power supply to the motherboard.
  8. Connect Storage Devices: Connect SATA data cables from your storage drives (HDD/SSD) to the SATA ports on the motherboard. Connect power cables from the PSU to the drives.
  9. Connect Front Panel Headers: Use the Q-connectors to simplify connecting the front panel cables (power button, reset button, USB, audio).
  10. Connect Peripherals: Connect your monitor, keyboard, mouse, and other peripherals to the appropriate ports on the I/O panel.

BIOS Flashback Feature

The ASUS Z87 PRO supports BIOS Flashback, allowing you to update the BIOS without a CPU or memory installed.

  1. Download the latest BIOS file from the ASUS support website.
  2. Rename the BIOS file according to the instructions in the full manual (e.g., Z87P.CAP).
  3. Copy the renamed BIOS file to the root directory of a USB flash drive (FAT16/32 formatted).
  4. Insert the USB flash drive into the designated BIOS Flashback USB port on the rear I/O panel.
  5. With the system powered off but connected to the PSU, press and hold the BIOS Flashback button until the LED starts blinking.
  6. Release the button. The LED will continue to blink and then turn off when the update is complete.

First Boot and BIOS Configuration

After assembly, power on your system. Press the DEL key during startup to enter the UEFI BIOS.

Software Installation

Install the operating system of your choice. After OS installation, install the necessary drivers and utilities from the provided support DVD or the ASUS website.

ASUS Wi-Fi Go!

The Wi-Fi Go! feature provides wireless connectivity and allows for remote control of your PC from smart devices, media streaming, and file transfer. Refer to the ASUS Wi-Fi Go! utility guide for detailed setup and usage.
