Introduction
This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the assembly, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Barska BE11642 Excavator Elite Edition Metal Detector. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the device to ensure proper function and longevity.
The Excavator Elite Edition Metal Detector is designed for treasure hunting and metal detection, featuring three distinct operation modes, a discriminator to differentiate metal types, and adjustable settings for sensitivity, discrimination, and volume. It includes an 8-inch waterproof search coil for shallow water detection and an easy-to-read LCD display for target identification and depth indication.

Setup
1. Assembly
Unpack all components carefully. Assemble the adjustable shaft by connecting the lower, middle, and upper sections. Attach the search coil to the lower shaft and secure the control box to the upper shaft. Ensure all connections are firm but do not overtighten.
2. Battery Installation
The metal detector requires batteries for operation. Locate the battery compartment, typically on the control box. Insert the required batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-). Close the battery compartment securely. A low battery indicator will alert you when replacement is needed.
3. Initial Adjustments
- Sensitivity: Adjust the sensitivity control to an appropriate level. Higher sensitivity increases detection depth but may also increase false signals.
- Discrimination: Use the discrimination control to filter out unwanted metal types. Refer to the operating section for detailed use of this feature.
- Volume: Adjust the volume control for the built-in speaker or for headphones (not included).
Operating Instructions
1. Powering On/Off
To power on the device, turn the volume knob clockwise until a click is heard. To power off, turn the volume knob counter-clockwise until it clicks off.
2. Selecting Operation Modes
Your metal detector offers three operation modes. Consult the control panel for mode selection buttons or switches. Each mode is optimized for different detection scenarios:
- All-Metal Mode: Detects all types of metal.
- Discrimination Mode: Allows you to filter out specific metal types.
- Notch Mode (if applicable): Allows for selective rejection of certain metal categories.
3. Using the Discriminator
The discriminator distinguishes between different types of metal. Adjust the discrimination sensitivity to ignore metal types you do not wish to detect, such as iron. Experiment with settings to find the optimal balance for your search environment.
4. Interpreting the LCD Display
The LCD display provides visual indications of detected targets and their approximate depth. Different icons or segments may illuminate to suggest the type of metal found. Refer to the display legend (if printed on the device) for specific interpretations.
5. Searching in Shallow Water
The 8-inch search coil is waterproof, allowing for detection in shallow water. Ensure the control box and other non-waterproof components remain dry. After use in water, rinse the search coil with fresh water and dry thoroughly.
6. Using Headphones
For enhanced audio clarity and to conserve battery life, you may connect headphones (not included) to the designated jack on the control box. Adjust the volume using the volume control knob.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning
After each use, especially in sandy or wet conditions, wipe down the search coil and shaft with a damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents. Keep the control box clean and dry.
2. Battery Care
Remove batteries if the detector will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage. Replace batteries promptly when the low battery indicator appears to ensure optimal performance.
3. Storage
Store the metal detector in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Disassemble the shaft if necessary for compact storage.
Troubleshooting
- No Power: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are fresh. Verify the power knob is turned on.
- False Signals: Reduce sensitivity. Ensure you are not near large metal objects or strong electromagnetic interference. Adjust discrimination settings.
- Poor Detection Depth: Increase sensitivity. Ensure the search coil is parallel to the ground and swept at a consistent height. Check battery level.
- No Audio: Check volume settings. If using headphones, ensure they are properly plugged in and functional.
