Installation

The Weiser SmartCode 5 deadbolt is designed for straightforward installation and is compatible with most standard residential door preparations. A Phillips head screwdriver is the only tool typically required.

Installation Steps Overview

  1. Prepare the Door: Ensure your door has the correct bore holes and backset for the deadbolt.
  2. Install the Latch: Insert the latch into the door edge and secure it with screws. Ensure the latch bolt is facing the correct direction.
  3. Install the Exterior Assembly: Place the exterior keypad assembly onto the door, ensuring the cable passes through the cross bore hole.

Operating Instructions

Locking the Door

  • From the Exterior (Keypad): Press the Lock button (the 'A' symbol) on the keypad. The deadbolt will extend, securing the door.
  • From the Interior (Thumb-turn): Rotate the thumb-turn on the interior assembly to the locked position.
  • Auto-Lock Feature: If enabled, the lock will automatically re-lock approximately 30 seconds after being unlocked from the exterior.

Unlocking the Door

  • From the Exterior (Keypad): Enter your valid 4-8 digit user code, then press the Lock button. The deadbolt will retract.
  • From the Exterior (Key): Insert the physical key into the cylinder and turn it to the unlock position.
  • From the Interior (Thumb-turn): Rotate the thumb-turn on the interior assembly to the unlocked position.

Programming User Codes

The SmartCode 5 lock supports up to 8 unique user codes and one master code. The master code is used to add or delete user codes and should be kept confidential.

Adding a User Code

  1. Open the battery cover on the interior assembly.
  2. Press the Program button once.
  3. Enter a new 4-8 digit user code on the keypad.
  4. Press the Lock button.
  5. Test the new code to ensure it functions correctly.

Deleting a User Code

  1. Open the battery cover on the interior assembly.
  2. Press the Program button twice.
  3. Enter the user code you wish to delete.
  4. Press the Lock button.

SmartKey Re-keying

Re-keying Process

  1. Insert your currently working key fully into the cylinder.
  2. Turn the key 90 degrees clockwise.
  3. Insert the SmartKey tool fully into the SmartKey hole on the cylinder face.
  4. Remove the SmartKey tool.
  5. Remove the current key.
  6. Insert your new key fully into the cylinder.
  7. Turn the new key 90 degrees counter-clockwise.
  8. Remove the new key.
  9. Test the new key to ensure it operates the lock smoothly.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement
