4. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your Vonyx SPJ-1200A active speaker:

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the speaker from its packaging. Inspect for any signs of damage during transit.
  2. Placement: Choose a suitable location for the speaker. It can be placed on a stable, flat surface, mounted on a standard speaker tripod (using the 35mm TopHat mount at the bottom), or laid horizontally as a stage monitor. Ensure the speaker is stable and secure to prevent tipping.
  3. Power Connection: Locate the power input on the rear panel. Connect the supplied power cable to the speaker and then to a grounded 230V AC mains outlet. Ensure the power switch is in the 'OFF' position before connecting.
  4. Audio Source Connection:
    • Line Input: For connecting devices like computers, tablets, MP3 players, or mixers, use the RCA or XLR LINE INPUT connectors on the rear panel.
    • Microphone Input: For connecting a microphone, use the XLR or 6.3mm jack MIC INPUT connector.
  5. Initial Settings: Before powering on, ensure all volume controls (MASTER VOLUME, MIC VOLUME, LINE VOLUME) are set to their minimum position. Set BASS and TREBLE controls to the center (flat) position.

5. Operating

Once the speaker is set up, follow these steps for operation:

  1. Power On: Flip the POWER switch on the rear panel to the 'ON' position. The power indicator light should illuminate.
  2. Adjust Line Volume: If using a line input, gradually increase the LINE VOLUME control to a comfortable listening level.
  3. Adjust Microphone Volume: If using a microphone, speak into the microphone and slowly increase the MIC VOLUME control until your voice is at the desired level. Avoid setting the microphone volume too high to prevent feedback.
  4. Master Volume: Use the MASTER VOLUME control to adjust the overall output level of the speaker.
  5. Tone Control: Use the BASS and TREBLE controls to adjust the low and high frequencies of the sound to your preference. Turning BASS clockwise increases low frequencies, and counter-clockwise decreases them. The same applies to TREBLE for high frequencies.
  6. Daisy Chaining (Optional): If connecting multiple speakers, use the XLR LINK OUTPUT to send the audio signal to another active speaker.
  7. Power Off: Before disconnecting power or inputs, turn all volume controls to their minimum position, then switch the POWER button to 'OFF'.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your speaker:

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe the speaker cabinet with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes.
  • Dust: Keep the ventilation grilles free from dust and debris to ensure proper cooling. Use a soft brush or vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the speaker in a dry, dust-free environment, preferably in its original packaging or a protective cover.
  • Cable Care: Inspect power and audio cables regularly for any signs of damage. Replace damaged cables immediately.
  • Avoid Overloading: Do not continuously operate the speaker at maximum volume, as this can lead to distortion and potential damage to the components.
