2. Watch Components
Familiarize yourself with the main components of your Esprit Chronograph watch:
- Crown: Used for setting time and date.
- Pushers (A & B): Used to operate the chronograph functions.
- Main Dial: Displays hours, minutes, and seconds.
- Sub-dials: Chronograph minute counter, chronograph second counter, and 24-hour indicator (specific functions may vary slightly).
- Date Window: Displays the current date.
- Leather Strap: Secures the watch to your wrist.
3. Setup and Initial Adjustment
3.1. Setting the Time
- Pull the crown out to the second click position.
- Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the hour and minute hands to the desired time. Ensure the AM/PM is correctly set if your watch has a 24-hour indicator or date changes at midnight.
- Push the crown back to the normal position.
3.2. Setting the Date
- Pull the crown out to the first click position.
- Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can interfere with the automatic date change mechanism.
- Push the crown back to the normal position.
4. Operating the Chronograph Function
Your Esprit Chronograph watch features a stopwatch function for measuring elapsed time.
- Start: Press pusher A (top pusher) to start the chronograph. The chronograph second hand will begin to move.
- Stop: Press pusher A again to stop the chronograph. The elapsed time will be indicated by the chronograph hands.
- Reset: After stopping, press pusher B (bottom pusher) to reset all chronograph hands to their zero positions.
- Split Time (if applicable): Some models allow for split time measurement. Consult specific model documentation if this feature is present.
5. Maintenance and Care
5.1. General Care
- Avoid exposing your watch to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight for prolonged periods, or strong magnetic fields.
- Clean the watch case and metal bracelet (if applicable) with a soft, dry cloth. For leather straps, wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth and allow to air dry.
- Avoid contact with chemicals such as solvents, detergents, perfumes, and cosmetics, as they can damage the case, strap, or gaskets.
5.2. Water Resistance
Your watch has a specific water resistance rating. Refer to the case back for details. Generally, watches are rated as follows:
- 3 ATM (30 meters/100 feet): Suitable for daily use, splash/rain resistant. Not suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, snorkeling, or water-related work.
- 5 ATM (50 meters/165 feet): Suitable for showering or swimming in shallow water. Not suitable for diving or snorkeling.
- 10 ATM (100 meters/330 feet): Suitable for swimming and snorkeling.
Note: Do not operate the crown or pushers when the watch is wet or submerged, as this can compromise water resistance.
5.3. Automatic Movement
This watch features an automatic movement, meaning it is powered by the motion of your wrist. If the watch stops, it may need to be wound manually or worn for a period to build up power reserve. To manually wind, gently turn the crown clockwise in its normal (pushed-in) position for about 20-30 rotations.
6. Troubleshooting
- Watch not running: Ensure the watch is fully wound (for automatic movements, wear it or manually wind it). If it's a quartz watch (not this model), check the battery.
- Date not changing: Check if the time is set correctly (AM/PM). Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM.
- Chronograph hands not resetting to zero: This may require a specific reset procedure. Consult a qualified watch technician if the standard reset (Pusher B) does not work.
- Water ingress: If moisture appears inside the watch, take it to a service center immediately to prevent further damage.
