5. Operating Instructions
5.1. General Operation Tips
- Always ensure the work area is clear of obstacles and potential hazards.
- Hold the device firmly with both hands during operation.
- Avoid operating the device on wet leaves or in damp conditions, as this can reduce efficiency and potentially cause blockages. Allow leaves to dry for best results.
- Be mindful of the power cord's position to prevent accidental cutting or tripping.
5.2. Suction and Shredding Mode
This mode is ideal for collecting and shredding leaves and light garden debris.
- Ensure the device is correctly assembled for suction (refer to Section 4.1).
- Connect the power cord to a suitable electrical outlet.
- Switch on the device.
- Move the suction tube slowly over the leaves and debris. For areas with loose particles like bark mulch or gravel, hold the suction tube slightly above the ground to primarily collect leaves and avoid ingesting heavier materials.
- Monitor the collection bag and empty it when full to maintain optimal suction performance. The bag is designed for easy opening and emptying.
5.3. Blowing Mode
Use this mode to clear leaves and debris from paths, driveways, or other surfaces by blowing them into piles.
- Ensure the device is correctly assembled for blowing (refer to Section 4.2).
- Connect the power cord to a suitable electrical outlet.
- Switch on the device.
- Direct the airflow towards the debris to move it. The flat nozzle provides a concentrated stream for effective clearing.
- Once debris is gathered into piles, you may switch back to suction mode to collect and shred them.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your STIHL SHE 71.
- Cleaning: After each use, disconnect the power and clean the exterior of the device with a damp cloth. Remove any debris from the suction tube, blow pipe, and impeller area.
- Collection Bag: Empty and clean the collection bag regularly. Ensure it is free of tears or damage.
- Impeller Inspection: Periodically inspect the impeller for any signs of damage or wear. If damaged, contact an authorized STIHL service center.
- Cord Inspection: Regularly check the power cord for cuts, fraying, or other damage. Replace damaged cords immediately.
- Storage: Store the device in a dry, secure location, out of reach of children. Ensure it is clean and dry before storage.
