4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the detector.
2. Slide the cover open or remove it according to the design.
3. Insert one 9V 6F22 Alkaline battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-). A 9V 6F22 Alkaline battery is included with the device.
4. Replace the battery compartment cover securely.

Note: Always use a fresh 9V alkaline battery for optimal performance. Remove the battery if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.

5. Operating Instructions

The detector operates by pressing and holding the test button while scanning. The LED indicators and buzzer will provide feedback.

5.1 General Operation and Calibration

1. Select the desired detection mode (Stud, Metal, or AC Wire) using the side switch.
2. Place the detector flat against the surface to be scanned. Ensure there are no obstructions or your hand is not covering the sensor area.
3. Press and hold the 'START' button. The device will automatically calibrate. Keep the detector still on the surface during calibration.
4. Once calibrated (indicated by a steady green LED or a specific sound), slowly slide the detector across the surface while continuously holding the 'START' button.

5.2 Stud Detection Mode

Use this mode to locate wooden studs behind walls.

• Select 'STUD' mode.
• Calibrate the device on a section of the wall where you are certain there are no studs.
• Slowly move the detector horizontally across the wall.
• As the detector approaches a stud, the LED indicators will progressively light up, and the buzzer may sound. The center LED and a continuous buzzer typically indicate the center of the stud.

5.3 Metal Detection Mode

This mode is used to find metal pipes, rebar, nails, and other hidden metal objects.

• Select 'METAL' mode.
• Calibrate the device on a section of the wall free from metal.
• Slowly move the detector across the surface.
• LEDs will illuminate and the buzzer will activate as metal is detected. The intensity of the indication increases as you get closer to the metal object.

5.4 AC Wire Detection Mode

Use this mode to detect live AC voltage (electrical wires) behind walls, ceilings, and floors.

• Select 'AC WIRE' mode.
• Calibrate the device on a section of the wall where no live wires are expected.
• Slowly move the detector across the surface.
• The LEDs and buzzer will indicate the presence of live AC voltage. The detection is sensitive and provides a general indication of live wires.
• WARNING: Always verify the absence of power by turning off the circuit breaker before any work involving cutting or drilling.

6. Marking Feature

The Faithfull DET31 includes a marking groove at the top of the device. Once an object is detected and its location pinpointed, you can use this groove to accurately mark the surface with a pencil or marker before proceeding with any work. This ensures precise placement for drilling, nailing, or screwing.

• Cleaning: Wipe the detector with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

• Battery: Remove the battery if the detector will not be used for an extended period to prevent corrosion.
