3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Dual-Band Wireless Operation
The DIR-860L operates on two frequency bands:
- 2.4 GHz Band: Provides wider coverage and better penetration through walls, suitable for general internet use, browsing, and connecting older devices. Speeds up to 300 Mbps.
- 5 GHz Band: Offers faster speeds and less interference, ideal for demanding applications like HD video streaming, online gaming, and large file transfers. Speeds up to 867 Mbps.
Your devices will automatically connect to the most suitable band, or you can manually select a band if your router broadcasts separate SSIDs for each.
3.2 AC Smartbeam Technology
The router utilizes AC Smartbeam technology to intelligently track your connected devices and direct Wi-Fi signals directly to them. This enhances signal strength, range, and overall wireless performance, especially in homes with multiple connected devices.
3.3 Gigabit Ethernet Ports
The four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports on the back of the router provide high-speed wired connections for devices such as desktop computers, gaming consoles, smart TVs, and network-attached storage (NAS) devices. These ports offer speeds up to 1000 Mbps, ensuring fast and stable connections for bandwidth-intensive tasks.
3.4 mydlink Cloud Management
The mydlink Cloud Management feature allows you to monitor and manage your network remotely from anywhere using the mydlink app or web portal. You can view connected devices, check browsing history, block unwanted connections, and receive automatic email alerts about network activity, all from your smartphone or tablet.
3.5 SharePort Mobile App
With the SharePort Mobile app, you can wirelessly access your favorite movies, music, and photos from any connected USB storage device (e.g., a USB hard drive or flash drive plugged into the router's USB port). This allows you to stream media directly to your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
4. Maintenance
- Firmware Updates: Regularly check the D-Link support website for firmware updates. Firmware updates can improve performance, add new features, and enhance security. Follow the instructions provided by D-Link for safe firmware upgrades.
- Rebooting: If you experience network issues, try rebooting your router by unplugging the power adapter, waiting 10-15 seconds, and then plugging it back in.
- Cleaning: Keep the router clean and free of dust. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Ensure ventilation openings are not blocked.
- Password Management: Periodically change your Wi-Fi and router administration passwords to maintain network security.
