Safety Instructions

Setup

Unpacking and Initial Cleaning

1. Carefully remove all packaging materials and promotional labels from your coffee maker.
2. Wash the carafe and its lid, and the reusable filter in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
3. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a damp cloth.

First Use (Cleaning Cycle)

Before brewing coffee for the first time, run two full cycles with water only to clean the internal components.

1. Fill the water reservoir to the '10-cup' mark with fresh, cold water.
2. Place the empty carafe with its lid on the warming plate.
3. Press the ON/OFF button to start the cycle.
4. Once the cycle is complete, discard the water from the carafe.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 for a second cleaning cycle.

Operating Instructions

Brewing Coffee

1. Open the lid of the coffee maker.
2. Remove the reusable filter.
3. Fill the carafe with the desired amount of fresh, cold water (up to 10 cups). Pour the water into the water reservoir. The water level indicator on the side of the coffee maker will show the amount of water added.
4. Add your preferred coffee grounds into the reusable filter. For optimal taste, use approximately one tablespoon of ground coffee per cup. Adjust to your personal preference.
5. Place the reusable filter back into its holder and close the lid securely.
6. Place the empty carafe with its lid on the warming plate.
7. Press the ON/OFF button. The indicator light will illuminate, and the brewing process will begin.
8. Once brewing is complete, the coffee maker will automatically switch to the 'keep warm' function.

Pause and Serve Feature

The KRUPS ProCafe coffee maker features a 'Pause and Serve' function, allowing you to pour a cup of coffee before the brewing cycle is complete. Simply remove the carafe from the warming plate, and the brewing will temporarily stop. Return the carafe to the warming plate within 20 seconds to resume brewing and prevent overflow.

Maintenance

Daily Cleaning

1. Always unplug the coffee maker before cleaning.
2. Remove the reusable filter and discard used coffee grounds. Rinse the filter thoroughly under running water.
3. Wash the carafe and its lid in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
4. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker, including the warming plate, with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.

Descaling

Mineral deposits (limescale) can build up in your coffee maker over time, affecting its performance and coffee taste. Descale your coffee maker regularly, depending on the hardness of your water and frequency of use (e.g., every 2-3 months).

1. Prepare a descaling solution by mixing white vinegar and water (e.g., 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water) or use a commercial descaling agent according to its instructions.
2. Pour the solution into the water reservoir up to the '10-cup' mark.
3. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
4. Press the ON/OFF button to start a brewing cycle.
5. After half the solution has brewed through, turn off the coffee maker and let it stand for 15-20 minutes to allow the solution to work.
6. Turn the coffee maker back on to complete the brewing cycle.
7. Discard the descaling solution from the carafe.
8. Run two full cycles with fresh, cold water only to rinse the coffee maker thoroughly.

Troubleshooting

• Coffee not brewing: Ensure the coffee maker is plugged in, the ON/OFF button is pressed, and the water reservoir contains water.
• Coffee tastes weak or too strong: Adjust the amount of coffee grounds used per cup. Ensure the water-to-coffee ratio is appropriate for your preference.
• Slow brewing or unusual noise: This may indicate mineral buildup. Perform a descaling cycle as described in the Maintenance section.
• Overflowing filter basket: Ensure the carafe is correctly placed on the warming plate and the 'Pause and Serve' feature is not engaged for too long. Check that the filter is not clogged with fine grounds.
