Operating Principles
The Sigma 14350 weatherproof box functions as a protective enclosure for electrical wiring and devices in outdoor or harsh indoor environments. Its primary purpose is to shield internal electrical components from moisture, dust, and physical damage. Once properly installed with appropriate covers and seals, it maintains a weatherproof barrier, ensuring the safe operation of the enclosed electrical devices.
Maintenance
- Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the box and its cover for any signs of damage, cracks, or deterioration of seals.
- Seal Integrity: Ensure all conduit connections and unused openings remain tightly sealed. Reapply silicone sealing compound if any signs of leakage or degradation are observed.
- Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the box with a damp cloth as needed to remove dirt or debris. Avoid using abrasive cleaners that could damage the powder-coated finish.
- Hardware Check: Verify that all mounting screws and device screws remain tight.
Troubleshooting
Most issues related to weatherproof boxes stem from improper installation or compromised seals.
- Moisture Inside the Box:
- Check all conduit connections for tightness and proper sealing.
- Ensure all unused hubs are sealed with closure plugs and silicone.
- Verify the weatherproof cover is correctly installed and sealed to the box.
- Inspect the box for any cracks or damage.
- Loose Mounting:
- Tighten mounting screws. If the mounting surface is unstable, reinforce it.
- Devices Not Fitting Properly:
- Ensure you are using standard 2-gang devices and a compatible weatherproof cover.
- Verify that device mounting tabs are not obstructed.
If issues persist, consult a qualified electrician.
