4. Setup

4.1 Unpacking and Initial Cleaning

  1. Remove all packaging materials and promotional labels.
  2. Wash the glass carafe, its lid, and the permanent filter in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  3. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a damp cloth.
  4. Before first use, run two full cycles with cold water only (without coffee) to clean the internal components.

4.2 Placing the Appliance

Place the coffee maker on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface, away from water sources and direct heat. Ensure there is enough space around the appliance for proper ventilation and easy access to the water tank and bean hopper.

4.3 Filling the Water Tank

  • Open the lid of the water tank.
  • Fill the water tank with fresh, cold water up to the desired number of cups indicated on the water level indicator. The maximum capacity is 1.5 liters (approximately 12 cups).
  • Close the water tank lid securely.
  • Note: The water tank is not removable. Use a measuring jug to fill it, especially if the machine is placed under cabinets.

5.1 Basic Coffee Brewing (Bean-to-Cup)

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled and the bean hopper contains whole coffee beans.
  2. Place the permanent filter (or a paper filter size 4) into the swiveling filter holder.
  3. Place the glass carafe with its lid on the warming plate.
  4. Press the CUPS button repeatedly to select the desired number of cups (2 to 12).
  5. Press the STRENGTH button to choose your preferred coffee strength (light, medium, strong).
  6. Press the EIN/AUS (On/Off) button to start the brewing process. The machine will grind the beans, then brew the coffee.
  7. The brewing process will stop automatically. The warming plate will keep the coffee warm for approximately 2 hours.

5.2 Using Pre-Ground Coffee

  1. Follow steps 1-3 from "Basic Coffee Brewing".
  2. Press the MÜHLE AUS (Grinder Off) button to deactivate the integrated grinder. The indicator light for the grinder will turn off.
  3. Add the desired amount of pre-ground coffee into the permanent filter.
  4. Press the CUPS button to select the number of cups.
  5. Press the EIN/AUS (On/Off) button to start brewing.

5.3 Adjusting Grind Setting

  • The grind setting dial is located on top of the bean hopper.
  • Rotate the dial to adjust the fineness of the grind. Finer settings are for stronger coffee, coarser for milder.
  • Important: Adjust the grind setting only while the grinder is running. Adjusting it when the grinder is off can cause clogging or damage. For the very first use, it is recommended to start with a coarser setting to allow the grinder to prime.

5.4 Setting the Timer (Programmable Function)

  1. Set the current time using the STD (Hour) and MIN (Minute) buttons.
  2. Prepare the coffee maker as for regular brewing (water, beans/ground coffee, filter, carafe).
  3. Press the PROGRAMM button. The display will show "PROGRAMM" or a similar indicator.
  4. Use the STD and MIN buttons to set the desired start time for brewing.
  5. Press the PROGRAMM button again to confirm the setting. The machine will now start brewing at the programmed time.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

6.1 Daily Cleaning

  • Always unplug the appliance before cleaning.
  • Remove the glass carafe and permanent filter. Wash them in warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
  • Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker, including the warming plate, with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • Clean the swiveling filter holder.

6.2 Cleaning the Water Tank

  • Since the water tank is not removable, cleaning can be challenging. Regularly rinse the tank by filling it with fresh water and running a brewing cycle without coffee.
  • To prevent mold and residue buildup, ensure the tank is as dry as possible after each use. You may need to tilt the machine carefully to drain residual water, being cautious not to let water enter electrical components.

6.3 Descaling

Regular descaling is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of your coffee maker, especially in areas with hard water. Descale approximately every 2-4 weeks, depending on water hardness and usage.

  • Prepare a descaling solution: Use a diluted vinegar essence (e.g., 1 part vinegar essence to 2 parts water). Do NOT use citric acid-based descalers, as they can form insoluble calcium citrate at high temperatures, potentially clogging the machine.
  • Pour the descaling solution into the water tank.
  • Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
  • Start a brewing cycle. Allow about half of the solution to brew through, then turn off the machine and let it sit for 15-20 minutes to allow the solution to work.
  • Turn the machine back on and let the remaining solution brew through.
  • After descaling, run at least two full cycles with fresh, clean water to rinse out any residual descaling solution.

6.4 Cleaning the Grinder

  • The grinder can sometimes clog, especially with certain types of beans or if moisture affects it.
  • To minimize clogging, ensure the bean hopper is dry and only add whole, dry coffee beans.
  • If the grinder sounds strained or stops, try running it empty for a few seconds. If persistent, unplug the machine and carefully try to dislodge any visible blockages with a small brush (ensure the machine is unplugged).
  • Regularly empty and clean the bean hopper to remove any oily residue or small bean fragments.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Coffee does not brew.No water in tank; machine not plugged in; power outage.Fill water tank; check power connection; check circuit breaker.
Grinder is loud or not grinding.Bean hopper empty; beans jammed; grind setting adjusted while off.Fill hopper; unplug and clear jam; adjust grind setting only when grinder is running.
Coffee tastes weak.Too few beans/ground coffee; coarse grind setting; strength setting too low.Increase coffee quantity; select finer grind; select higher strength setting.
Water remains in the tank after brewing. This is normal for this model when brewing fewer cups than the tank's capacity. The machine only draws the selected amount of water. No action required. This is a design characteristic.
Machine leaks.Carafe not positioned correctly; filter holder not closed; overfilled water tank.Ensure carafe is centered; close filter holder securely; do not overfill water tank.
Timer function not working.Program not set correctly; power interruption.Re-set the program time; ensure continuous power supply.
